Three Foot Johnson Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I had a long-time, very experienced Cowboy shooter yesterday try and tell me, "Gunfighters have to have both guns out at the same time." "No they don't. They CAN have both out at the same time, but they don't HAVE to." "Yes they do." "What if they shoot Double Duelist style?" "Still have to pull them both out at the same time." "What if it's split pistols?" "Still have to have them both out, alternate shots Gunfighter style for five shots or shoot one empty, move to the next position, shoot the other five or the other gun, then re-holster." "What if there's a rifle or shotgun in between the two pistol strings?" "That never happens."
Keystone, SASS # 47578 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Well, I'll bet he also thinks that a shooter may not pickup dropped ammunition and shoot it in a long gun. Probably also believes a restaged long gun with the action closed is automatically a safety violation without checking the action for live or spent ammunition. Hopefully he'll reread the shooters handbook and take a refresher RO course. Hasta Luego, Keystone
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Let us remember, there is a certain difference in 12 years of experience and One Month of experience repeated 144 times.

Colorado Coffinmaker Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Ummmmm. Doc, I think you just did?? Feel free.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Some time back, when I was explaining to the RO, I was shooting Cap Guns and would like to camp on the Unloading Table to reload, one of the long time "regulars" ran up and literally yelled "You can't shoot Percussion guns in "Frontier Cartridge" Gunfighter!! You have to shoot "Cartridges" .. Can't you read the description?? Says Frontier Cartridge!! Luckily, several "others" assisted him to one side and explained how the cow eats cabbage.
Three Foot Johnson Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 When we had Modern category, I would occasionally shoot a pair of adjustable sight ROA's. I had several shooters over a period of years tell me, "You can't shoot black powder/cap & ball in Modern." I also once had a club president tell me, "You can't shoot your Spencer because .56-.50 isn't a pistol cartridge."

Widder, SASS #59054 Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 J.Bar, I hope this Gunfighter (who knows so much) isn't a JEDI. It one thing to not know the rules but its another thing to make one up. ..........Widder
Three Foot Johnson Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 He knows what he's doing, he shoots gunfighter, and is normally very knowledgeable about this game, so I was rather shocked when he came up with the "must have both guns out at the same time" thing.
Buckaroo Bubba Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Oh wow... Shooters Book or RO classes anyone???

I kinda question the last comment he made about revolvers being split by a long gun as well..."That never happens."
Calico Mary Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 this even beats the time I had two people, one that was otherwise an excellent TO and one that actually did shoot LBW tell me that the only rifle allowed in BW was a Marlin.... and it never fails to amaze me how many people don't understand the rules for GF.....
