Three Foot Johnson Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 This stock has been around as far back as I can remember, but I don't know what it's for - any ideas? The white stuff in the tang channel seems to be a plastic shim. It appears to have had a sling swivel at some point, but the hole has been plugged. On the lower left side there is what could be some letters stamped into the wood... AA and a backwards C maybe...?
Warden Callaway Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Could be a 92 or 94 Winchester rifle. Carbine generally had a sheet steel buttplate.
Warden Callaway Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Winchester 1892 above. Length of top and bottom tang about 3.82". The length of the top heel of the buttplate is 1.5". Marlin 1894 below. Length of top tang 3.5", bottom 3.62". The length of top heel of buttplate is 2.0. I have reason to believe the Winchester 1892 and 1894 are the same. I'm guessing it's Winchester.
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Although I agree with the above post, if those aren't correct, ya might try Marlin model 39 in .22 On some of their early models, they used some crescent but plates. PLUS, the Marlin trademark 'bullseye' would have been in the position of that 'sling swivel stud'. ..........Widder
Big Jake1001 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 It's definitely a Winchester RIFLE buttstock. I'm guessing model 1892 or 1894. I'd be interested if you don't have a need for it. Just sayin' Big Jake
