Captain Clark
Today { May 7 } 75 years ago the final engagement between the American and Japanese forces in the Corral sea took place. The battle itself was a draw, yet the American forces came out the winner in many aspects and halted the Japanese in their quest to invade New Guinea. This was the 1st naval battle ever fought where neither side saw the others ships! The US lost the carrier Lexington, but almost all of the 3,000 crew were rescued. The US did mange to severely damage 2 Japanese carriers which rendered them inoperable and turn the Japanese invasion force back. The battle for the Corral Sea was over the next day. My great uncle was onboard Lady Lex when she got hit. He was proud to have served on her. He did survive WWII.
