Howdy

Something that has always intrigued me is when a BP shoot is advertised some  clubs say  smokeless shooters welcome , doesn't that just make it a normal shoot ? .......just sayin'

FYI......BP shoots down-under are for BP shooters only, no smokeless allowed...which IMHO is the correct way

No disrespect  intended just my  observation & personal comment..

we have a black powder match that may be cartridge 1 month and front loader next. Since not everyone has a percussion cap double barrel shotgun our sporting clays is shoot what you have. we do have hard corps BP people but if closes thing you have is a 28 gauge O/U we welcome you to have fun. Sometimes a Vaquero is competing next to a 51 navy. Ours is lets have fun and after match or two the smokeless folks start catching the bug. Advantage we do have experienced folks there to teach them. This past Sunday was pistols and had 1 with flintlock Kentucky rifle.

Unfortunately BP shooter are in the minority in most areas here in the states. At our monthly shoots, there are usually 2 BP shooters, me and Utah Bob. Last Saturday, I was the only one. I'm sure that is not the case everywhere, but it is here in SW Colorado.:(

I agree with letting smokeless shooters at a BP shoot and just make them separate as far as awards go. As was mentioned, BP shooters are in the minority, so for the sake of the club, let the smokeless shooters pay and shoot!

Ohio's Smoke in the Woods had only 40 some shooters for a two day event. If smokeless shooters were allowed there probably would have been 60 or 70 and that would have just made more money for the club! ;)

Just returned from the Kansas State BP shoot, put on by the Butterfield Gulch Gang. They also invite smokeless shooters, and run the show as two separate but combined events. The BP portion is "The Kansas State Black Powder Championship," while the smokeless portion is called "The Siege at Clarks' Station." Smokeless and BP shooters on the same posse. but all BP shooters are up as a complete group, as are the smokeless folks...a version of "Posse A, Posse B." This year there were 34 BP and 27 heathens - sorry, "smokeless shooters." Doing things this way means decent sized, workable posses, helps "pay the freight,"  gives the smokeless folks a good look at how BP shooters operate, and makes for an enhanced social climate - I met a couple of new-to-me smokeless competitors and spent a very enjoyable evening with them during the banquet...wouldn't have otherwise had that opportunity .

I think that an Evening 3 stage minni match at a Major shoot is a good way to introduce Folks to the Art of the Black...

The Flames and Smoke make it a great Show even for non shooters ...

Only Blackpowder to be used ...

With loaner guns and ammo there for Folks try their hand, as time permits ...

That sounds like a great set-up.  I just shot my first match this past weekend (Dam Site 2018) and after watching a few of the BP shooters was thinking about pulling the Navy Sheriffs that are currently in the safe out and having a go every now and again.  But damn the bad luck, I'll probably have to buy me a new shotgun and rifle to go with them!!  Poor, poor me!
