While running with a stick (some accounts say a curtain rod) in his mouth, he tripped and fell, ramming the stick through the roof of his mouth. 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 (edited) Despite his comic appearance and demeanor, Andy Devine was a true man of the West! He got his start in westerns because he could handle a team of horses. He was one of very few actors who could handle a “six up”, six horses or mules in harness, (Slim Pickens was another). He was born in Flagstaff, AZ and raised in Kingman, AZ. His first acting job was as a football player, a role he got because he was, in fact, a college and semiprofessional football player. He was a pilot and ran a flight school during World War II, training pilots for the military. He was a star in silent films, talkies, radio, television, and on the stage! He appeared in over 400 films and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Edited January 10 by Blackwater 53393 2 Quote
