Removing Existing Attachments

Recommended Posts

I am posting this thread with an amazing nature scene picture.

I will then proceed to remove the existing attachment to verify what happens.

VOILA!

I removed the image from my list of attachments and the picture is still there. not there.

In it's place you should see a path name such as below:

or possibly just a pic icon such as this:

Previously when members were using a 3rd Party website to post their pictures, we soon found out that after a period of time, they wanted us to pay for the service.

Because we did not renew, our pictures were deleted, and thus on any post where we placed the picture, you would now see the following icon.

5ac79faf0c297_PhotobucketIcon.JPG.80fe2fa258a1c7455b2a4405d988997d.JPG

Hope all of this clarifies that deleting your existing attachment, will not only remove it from your file, but will remove it from any post that you used it on.

Kit, it is gone.

Ms.Allie Mo,

Was there when I tested it.

Could be a timing issue or viewing on a device that is different from where the attachment is saved.

Although the existing attachment is deleted, it's possible that on the device where the attachment is saved will still pull it up.

Will have to test that theory later.

The above is what the rest of us see in your post.   I suspect if you clear your browser history that is what you will see also

Hi Dave,

When you quoted Kit's post, I still just saw the box with an x in it instead of a picture. So, like you suggested, I cleared my browser history, cookies, etc. I refreshed this page and I still see the box with an x in it instead of a picture.

Regards,

Allie

Hi Kit,

Just a guess from appearances, the attachments seem to be saved on the forum's server.

I look forward to hearing what you find.

Regards,

Allie

Ms. Allie Mo,

See the revised OP above..

Apparently it was more of a timing issue than anything else.

Looking at the post from other sources revealed the picture was gone.

Coming back the next day to the original computer where it was posted, revealed it was gone also.

Hope this clears this issue up for those who are interested.

Thanks Kit!

However, how do you overcome the timing thing. I'm still not understanding that.

Regards,

Allie

Ms. Allie Mo,

I will test that process this afternoon.

What did you discover, Kit? What is the "trick" to keeping the photo visible after deleting the attachment?

I don't believe you can Allie, Ones I deleted I went back to some of my old Welcome posts and the original Sheriff thingy I used had turned into the box with a square. The timing issue I think was deleting an attachment and going right back to the test post. I believe it was still in memory. JMHO
