Seeing the future, and it doesn't look good

Personally, I am scared.

Seriously.

My only calming relieve may be that at my age, it may not be something that I would have to endure for many years.

What do I fear? Loosing our Country and what it was meant to stand for.

This newly found fear came after reading Wayne LaPierre's article in the latest issue of American Rifleman entitled, "Our Colleges are Breeding Grounds for Socialists Who Will Take Our Guns."

I already knew what was happening to our Country, but did not want to believe it was this bad.

George Soros is 87 yrs. old and has a wife and 5 kids.  His time is running out and when he's gone his family may have other plans for that money.  The kids that are protesting have a hill to climb soon. It's called life. Most of those guys are pandering to the girls in hopes of hooking up. In a few years college(if they can afford it), kids and a house note, car note, doctor bills and all the other fun stuff that comes with being an adult will start diverting their attention.

For the simple reason that if they aren’t “defended “ they will be outlawed.  And while bump stocks don’t interest me, I agree that we don’t want them outlawed.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

Banning inanimate objects like bump stocks is a slippery slope. There’s an old saying, “Once the camel pokes his nose in the tent, the rest is soon to follow”.

Additionally, I agree with most posts in this thread, and JMHO, we need to continue educating people and get them involved, regardless of what we think or are told about what ‘public opinion’ is. And, regardless of what we are seeing in the MSM, facts and education on the issues will carry the day.

I agree with Pat Riot-choir practice is over. Time for some serious contemplation with Gentleman Daniels....

Times they are a changin or so the song goes. My first memories were in western Nebraska and northeast Colorado and the racial hatred and segregation that was directed towards Mexicans, blacks and other non white individuals. My mom and stepdad and grandfathers referred to black people with the “N” word every time they talked about them. We lived in a town where the railroad tracks were the dividing line where Mexican families were only allowed to have homes on the south side of the tracks. When I was about 10 years old a Mexican family bought a house on the same block that I lived on and my folks were vicious towards them and my step dad whipped my butt more than a few times when he caught me playing with their kids, even though I went to school with them, I don’t know I guess he thought it was going to rub off on me or something. Anyway along came the desegregation pushes down south and Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks and my folks and grandparents thought it was the end of the world. My mother had a picture in her collection and it was a picture of her holding me next to a sign going into the town that I was born in in northeast Colorado that said “Black man don’t let the sun set on your shoulders in this town”.

I had an uncle that everyone referred to as strange and my folks would not let him spend anytime alone with me and my siblings, I thought he was a pretty nice guy because he had some great stories to tell about his world travels and always treated us well. Well many years later I found out the reason they treated him that way was that he was a homosexual and that’s the way you treated them back then, he later committed suicide. Over the years I’ve met quite a few gay folks, worked with and for them and even slept on a gay couples couch because I got thrown out of my house and after my younger sister died of AIDS in the early 90’s anytime someone would tell a joke about someone having AIDS like it was a funny thing I’d have to walk away or risk getting into an altercation.

Now we can all get on the wire in the Saloon and grouse about the up and coming generations not being smart enough to pour piss out of a boot but believe me there are some very intelligent people out there and they are not all out there being mindlessly manipulated. My two oldest grandkids are in their late 20’s now and not to long ago I kind of felt the same way that the OP did but since they’ve been out working, paying rent, taxes and learning about the world and how it works their viewpoints have drastically changed. My wife and I spent a very enjoyable afternoon with them and some of their friends and families today and I must say it was very encouraging.

Just think how far our society has advanced in the last 50 years. I remember using an outhouse at my aunt and uncles farm in the early 60’s because they didn’t have indoor toilets. We used telephones that were wooden and hung on the wall, a big Saturday night when I was a kid was listening to a western on the radio and now you can watch one in full color on your cellular phone which wasn’t even thought of when I was a kid. Life and society isn’t going to stay frozen in time, we’ve seen so much change just this century that it’s mind boggling much of it’s good, much of it’s bad depending on who you talk to.

Many people now view their handheld communications device as their best friend and the disconnect of emotion that comes from that attachment is rapidly becoming a disaster, IMHO. We’re even suffering from that disconnect of emotion here in the Saloon and Wire because many times we’ll say something with the keyboard that we wouldn’t dream of telling the person to their face. The sun will come up in the morning and times will keep changing.

I like what you said Yul, thank you. It's entirely possible that in a month or three or six, some new cause de jour will come along and the sheeple will be of and running in that new direction. But I too fear for my family, myself, and our country because each time the wave of hysteria hits it erodes a little more of the rights, freedoms and values that made our country what it was. It may be microscopic erosion but it does slowly add up.

Well written, Yul.

I have to say, though, that these days I feel like i'm living on the wrong side of the tracks.

Same here, HC. I remember the big push to desegregate schools in the 60’s and early 70’, the forced busing and all of that, nowadays in the areas around me the schools are segregated but for different reasons it seems. I drive past schools in Escondido, San Marcos and Vista and there isn’t an Anglo kid amongst the kids on the playground. There was a time where that wouldn’t have been allowed if it was the other way around, students would have been bussed in to desegregate but not anymore. Times they are a changing.

What you are seeing, in part, is what the media wants you to see and that isn't necessarily an accurate picture of what the entire country is feeling.

I remain skeptical that anything of real significance will happen when it comes to new gun control laws.  Those in Congress that are in favor of gun control will try to get too much passed and will refuse to compromise with the pro-gun side.  The pro-gun side isn't likely to give up something without getting something positive in return.

As to the alleged bump stock ban, I suspect that in a month or so, the ATF will come back and say that under the current law, they have no authority to ban bump stocks.  By that time the media will have moved on to the next shiny new story.

As happened when Clinton "banned" "assault rifles", the ban only applied to import or IIRC domestic manufacture of certain guns.  I am NOT a Constitutional lawyer (or any other kind), but FUTURE bump stock manufacture and even sale and transfer of them probably COULD be limited or even banned.  But, unless the Federal government is willing to provide just compensation to owners, possession and use of bump stocks, guns, etc., would probably NOT stand up to lawsuits based on the ex post facto provisions of the Constitution (i.e., you can't make laws that affect things/people retroactively).  If I am wrong will some constipational experts please chime in?

WA state just banned bump stocks, and there is no grandfather clause. The state is working on a "buyback" program but they will be illegal to possess in this state by July 2019 no matter when you bought them.

Ex Post Facto essentially means you may not be charged with committing a crime if it was not a crime at the time. They can outlaw anything effective on a certain date. You can’t be prosecuted for possessing it before the law went into effect. But after the date making it illegal you can be. They can give you a grace period to turn the noe contraband item in or they can grandfather it...but they don’t have to. You used to be able to buy a Thompson at the hardware store. But after they were made illegal to possess without registration and hoop jumping you could be hammered.

I keep seeing people say that the Kids are the problem.    Which isn't true.  The problem started with the parents and grandparents who think it's ok to raise the Kids this way.

" start the Kids with a semi auto because of the instant gratification "  or don't start a kid with a .410 it's to hard to hit with.

They are easily distracted.   Well the only way they can be distracted is they have the option.

that right there is a big part of the problem.   Teaching Kids not to respect the value of hard work.

Letting tvs and video games raise the children instead of being a parent.  Everybody gets mad at people blaming guns when they are not the problem.   Well same should be said for those blaming the kids.

First and foremost! In order to be honest with ourselves? We have to admit that we have allowed our children and grandchildren to live in the enemy camp. We can point the blame any way we want.

But make no mistake....you cannot let children get brainwashed K-12 and then through 4-6-8 years of college and expect them to come out on your side. And it doesn’t have to be about the 2A and guns!

Here is an example from yesterday. My mom recently passed. And my aunt (her sister) wrote my son a letter. He came to me asking for help because he could not read it. He is in College! I asked him why he couldn’t read it as my aunt has wonderful penmanship..... He said he was never taught to read or write cursive!!! I said to him, which was the first thing that came to my mind..... the US Constitution is written in cursive! He said he could just get a printed copy. And I said.....you are then relying on someone else’s interpretation of what it is you should be able to read yourself.

So as a parent I feel like a failure. Because my son can sign his name, I never questioned it.

So the commies have infiltrated our schools and have decided to wipe US history from the map. So much so that they no longer teach the basic skills so that our children can reconstruct it if need be. My son believes in the 2A......but he cannot read it as written by our founding fathers! Sneaky.....dastardly.

We have to address this and come up with a plan. Otherwise we are beating a dead horse. We cannot allow our children to continue being brain washed!

They don’t even teach sentence diagramming in schools anymore!!

If they did, they couldn’t tell our children the lies that they do about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and get away with it!!
