Misty Only 100 SASS members a day visiting the wire forums sounds more like a crisis than a fun fact. I hope these upcoming changes will spur more activity here and towards that end I support them. Roscoe Regulator
Since it has been said that SASSWire is SASS, with these changes I will renew my membership instead of my previous decision to let it lapse after only one year, taking it one year at a time. I was otherwise actually bummed that I was not going to be able to participate in our State match for the first time.
Marshal Hangtree
Keep in mind that the "100 members" vs "450 guests" numbers are probably rather skewed. I know that I will check the forum several times each day from a computer that I don't want to log in with. Therefore each time that I as a member check in I'm counted as a "guest". So if that is a common occurrence among our members, then the member vs guest numbers are probably more close to being even.

Buckaroo Bubba
That's just it, we as a group need to help change the culture of the SASS Wire, the "Ghost Moderators" will only be able to do so much. We ALL need to do a better job of being welcoming, instead of confrontational. Agreed, but do really need an individual thread for each one? One a day or one a week would surely suffice. Especially since we can put an @symbol in front of their name and notify them. It clutters the forum and hinders the purpose of the forum. Again all for encouraging new members. But some just want to come and check it out without having attention drawn to them. Yul Lose
I guess I don’t see the big deal about welcoming new members and giving them their post. It usually only happens once per new member. Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217
Hello Folks, First, I have had the flu since Sunday and haven't welcomed anyone since Saturday or Sunday. IIRC there were only + three per day. To me, that didn't seem like too many to endure on the first page. The reason you are seeing so many is that someone just got online after an absence and has greeted everyone who was welcomed in his absence. I have no idea what will be done about them in the future. Regards, Allie Thanks Allie "IMHO" SASS prides itself for being a Friendly Place. To me, this is very important. In keeping with this thought I think saying howdy-howdy to our newcomers might be just about the most important thing we do here. There's been a lot of concern over friendliness on the Wire over the years. I'm very much encouraged to see that The Wire is concerned. For my part, I hope to reflect a bit on every post, and, before pressing SEND I hope to be sure my postings are constructive. Cheers -- and thanks a bunch for all your hard work hereabouts ! Blackwater 53393
I think the solution to the Welcome Posts subject is to establish a pinned thread or a "Welcome! We're glad you're here!! Now tell us a little about yourself" sub-forum. I moderate on two other forums that have just such a sub-forum!! They are POPULAR with everyone!! I personally check one of them EVERY morning and add my own greeting to each new member's thread!! There, we can give advice and usher new members along if they need. Clean! Simple!! AND it gives new members a far more special, "PLACE OF THEIR OWN" to put out their own welcome mat if they want to!!

C0ckr0ach, SASS #26100
Been thinking. Where does the importance of the SASS Wire stack up in your life ? While I enjoy the SASS Wire - a few games of Snood, 15 minutes playing with my dog or watching my wife is more enjoyable - all of which I would miss. The SASS Wire is a habit. A thought problem. W. D. Pickett
Well, there is a saying in law enforcement, "You sleep safe and sound at night because there are rough men/women who do violence on your behalf." Moderators are the police who walk the streets at night, usually alone, who look the offender in the face and say, "That's not right nor acceptable according to the rules or common sense", they are the ones to stand up to the bullies, and so on. I saw one post that I thought was really thought provoking. A very good shooter/competitor/teacher said that the reason he and others do not post is the nit-picking people who don't agree with what they say or how they explain how to do something then go on and on about how they know this or that is better. I feel that we all suffer a loss when this happens. Others who can make a lot of difference in new shooters and answer their questions with experience rather than bull poop, no longer post. I love SASS, the people, those who make SASS work, and those who enforce the rules and those who shoot and enjoy our sport. Allie Mo and Misty stood up to a lot of fools who thought the rules for everyone but them. I am damn glad that they were there and I find them good to ride any trail with and good to have around when the bad guys come over the wall. By the way, this is going to make someone mad...and I don’t care. Let me enlighten some of you: 1. The first thing that I noticed is I lost over half of my so-called “friends” here in the Wire. Why? I have no idea. 2. For some reason folks assume that because you are a Mod you shouldn’t be participating (watching them) in “their” thread. I don’t know how many threads I posted on where my post was the last post. Or how many times I would get a PM or an email (yes, someone who knew my email address and was kind enough to share it...bless their heart )...Anyway, I don’t know how many times I got messages asking me why I was posting, did they do something wrong, etc. 3. Al of a sudden you become “Mom”...”Mom, he won’t stop touching me!”...”Mom, she made a comment that hurt my wittle feewings.”...”Mom, he is saying those bad words again.” Imagine that every day in Reports, PMs and emails. 4. You constantly get asked about the latest conspiracies going on within SASS. Oh yes, conspiracy abounds within SASS! You didn’t know that? Well, my friend, you are talking to the wrong people. 5. Some folks with big egos and bigger mouths think that “they” know what’s best and “they” can’t be pushed around by some woman or some guy that has never even won a match or because they have won some matches that they are superior. These are people that hold a special place in my heart because they can be a serious pain to deal with as a Mod. Some of these people are the reason for “time outs” and even worse, outright bans. 6. In addition to the above you have what I call the “Cowboy Gangsta’s”. These are the bitter people that have a following that buck everything a Mod does and they have a contingency of followers to help them gang up on a Mod for doing their job. 6. Then you have the reports and PMs from folks that must really like hitting that “report this post button” and then expect immediate action only the action you perform must be approved by them. If it’s not they then badger you with PMs asking you over and over why you can’t see it their way. 7. Then you have the lost souls. The ones that just couldn’t stop pushing the envelope by breaking the rules and then putting it in the Mod’s faces (think Cowboy Gangsta) and then when they get their wings clipped they go running to SASS HQ hat in hand and wearing their best Bruce Dern sad face hoping to be allowed back in. So not only did the Mods have to deal with that guy now they have to answer to HQ for why they did what they did. I could go on but I think I made my point...I am not sure how long my point will be posted but I wanted to let you know why I think Misty’s idea is a good one. It’s a damn shame when a person loves this game and this organization so much that they volunteer their time to help out only to be kicked in the teeth and the shins at every turn. Losing sleep many a night trying to find the right solution using the Cowboy Way as a guide. FOR FREE! No money, no perks, no recognition. FREE time, FREE effort and FREE heartache. Now, after saying all that I want you to know that I am talking about a minority of SASS members here. A minority! But that minority can make a person nuts. Being a Mod could literally be a full time job. I came very close to walking away from SASS, again, over some of the things that occurred when I was a Mod and I still get PMs from folks wanting me to Mod things. I still get emails from a couple of folks you don’t see on here any more trying to spin things up. If you think being a Mod is all “sunshine and snacky-cakes” then step up and do the job for a while...as a Ghost Mod you probably won’t experience what I outlined above and THAT is why I think Misty’s idea is a good one! My name is Pat Riot. Hello Folks, I've thought I should write something since I first saw Misty's post. Pat has explained, very well, how it was to be a Moderator. I agree with everything he wrote. Think about his being a Moderator for six months. I was one for five years. Some of you were so nice and understanding. You smoothed over the bad times. However, I felt like I was wearing a Scarlet A around my neck and a bull's eye on my back. Like Pat, I think the idea of anonymous Moderators is an excellent one. Bravo to the Wild Bunch for deciding to do that! Regards, Allie Mo
