I've got an Uberti Cattleman with the 1860 grips (Pietta's is the Alchimista) I like the bigger grip and I can hardly wait to try 'em in a match. Shot it at the indoor range and it felt and shot great!

Anyone using 'em??

Hey Rye:

Coffinmaker prefers them!
I believe he put them on all his guns!
Check 'em out at the April Tusco shoot

Is that the one they are calling the "Grizzly"?

Was thinking about trying these after I get my Pietta 1851 Yanks up and runningB)

Not sure about the "grizzly" tag but on the box it says, "Uberti Cattleman 1860 Army" Like I said Pietta's are the "Alchmista", SASS gun of the year in 2008 (?)

It works out great for both sides, I pretty much like the Navy size grips on my Army frame pistols.  The fact that Colt (in this case Uberti) made the grips interchangeable also allows us to have Birdshead grips on our 1860 revolvers.

I have them on Pietta's and lowered hammers.  I love them.

I am glad that those are options for you and make the game more enjoyable. It just baffles me that it is allowed to put Army grips and lowered hammers on a gun, but it is not allowed to put John Wayne finger groove grips on a gun because those would add a mythical competitive advantage, whereas the swapped out grips and lowered hammers would not. The only thing I find consistent about many of the current rules is the amount on inconsistency.

Remember that Colt actually put the  '51 Navy size grip frames on their first offering of the 1860 Army.  The Yankee generals were the ones who rejected the traditional grip for a longer version.  Colt went back to the smaller grip frames on their '73 military pistols.  I always wondered why Pietta never made a version of the original '60 Army model as was presented to the Yankee Generals for testing.

As the Grizzly said as he rubbed his back on the tree "If it feels good .. DO IT" ..... within the rules.  Those whom make the rules are sometimes want to change them.

HEY !!!  RYE!!!  With two exceptions, I've switched to the Army patterns grips on everything I have.  For some of us, the Army pattern grips just "feel" better than the Navy pattern.  Of course, most of my 1851s are .44s so that comes up kinda Oxymoron too.  Remembering of course It's Just A Fantasy Game and we are intended to HAVE FUN.

For some reason I cant open the Uberti site at the moment but they are selling an 1873 Cattleman with the 1860 grip under the name of the Grizzly Paw.

This is a photo from Google.

I have a Uberti 60 Army open top (I had the hammer lowered), 2 GW2's and a pair of the Alchemista's. All of those have the larger grip. I like them a lot. But having said that, what I shoot 90% of the time is a pair of Uberti 51 Richard Mason open tops with Navy grips. I like the balance of those best.
