Are any of you Frontiersman using these cap keepers? I have had great success over the last season with them on my 1858's, just curious if anyone else uses them.

A solution in search of a problem. Proper caps on good nipples are all that is necessary.

Remington among others use to sell these "cap guards."  A good set of nipples and properly fitted caps greatly outweighs the time and effort needed to use them.

That's a stock photo from ebay, not my gun. I have 10 cylinders I preload, always used remi #10's, very seldom have a problem with the stock nipples, besides I cant justify spending $400 to outfit 10 cylinders with slix

I used to cut my own out of fish tank tubing, but determined it was too much effort for the results if you have proper fitting caps and nipples. And you don't want yer hammer spring too light either.

Use what works for you within the category rules, good luck and have fun!

I use screw covers to mark my empty cylinder that are a lot cheaper than what is advertised. I have never found a need to buy ten cylinders so two sets of slick six Nipples work great for me for about $60 not $400 for the extra cylinders. Just the view from my saddle.

PLUS ONE to J BAR!!  Although >>>>

I found them way too time consuming and too much hassle if your only running two cylinders.  I found 10 cylinders to be way too much cleaning.  Just my take though.

Slix Shot Nipples go a long way to solve issues with Cap jams .

A Cap rake or even this

Cap Guard would probably  make 100% reliability for

Gun fighter .

But I would say Slix Shot Nipples made the guns 95 % Reliable.

Im a Colt shooter myself.

I always herd Remmys did not have that issue .

I use them on my deer rifle as snow proofing.

Snow Proofing is a great idea.  I don't play inna snow myself, but it's still a great idea.

I shot a match last weekend with Slik Shot cones, they performed perfectly without the cap keepers. Thanks to everyone for all the good advice.

Bought a bag when I started.

Now used to mark the empty chamber.

I wouldn't bother with them myself, though as J-Bar said, do what seems best to you.  I switched to Slix-Shot nipples a year ago and haven't had a cap jam since.
