In .... 2004? 2005? ... somewhere around then, anything in .50 BMG became an "assault weapon" and couldn't be registered. OH!!! Got it - it is the lower that is the "weapon." So the UPPER is legal. It isn't a pleasant experience to be occupying a privy located in the muzzle blast area of a M109 during a fire mission. Been there done that!
