Seamus McGillicuddy Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 The suits I am aware of are based on age discrimination. It’s Ok to say, we won’t sell any AR15 type rifles to anyone or I won’t sell to you to because I have a bad feeling. These restrictions are not aimed at any specific protected class of folks. But if most or all your bad feelings occur when the customer is black, or female, or gay or under 21 you risk a suit based on violation of a specifically protected status such as race, gender, and, as some have noted above, in some instances/states, age or sexual orientation. Publicly announcing you plan to discriminate due to age is very dangerous. Most age discrimination laws have specific exceptions such as for senior housing, gender based bathrooms etc. I am not aware of any exceptions for gun purchases. I believe these stores are very vulnerable to these suits where there are age discrimination laws and I won’t be surprised if their policies change and the lawsuits are quickly and quietly settled. Seamus.
Ramblin Gambler Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Well Florida passed a law saying the same thing and the NRA is taking them to court. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out. They're suing for violation of the 2nd and 14th amendment IIRC.
Trailrider #896 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Raising the age to 21 to purchase a long gun, ASSumes that a few years difference in supposed "maturity" will prevent some of these horrific massacres. Maturity has NOTHING to do with it. It is a matter of MENTAL HEALTH! It is also a matter that even when disturbed people are reported to "the authorities" by themselves, by others, etc., NOTHING GETS DONE! This is NOT the only time this has happened, and unless some very complicated things are done, it will happen again! And that has nothing to do with passing more gun legislation! AND IT CERTAINLY DOES NOT MEAN TO TAKE ACTION FIRST AND "LET DUE PROCESS CATCH UP LATER!" I remember something I was told long ago: Engage your brain first, but keep your mouth on semi-automatic at all times!
Volga Vigilante Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Interesting how the young man at 19 should no longer be able to buy a firearm, yet is old enough for the death penalty. Emotions and knee jerk responses are taking over.

He's admitted to doing it, but he just won't "plead guilty" unless the state takes the death penalty off of the table (it was in today's paper). If I had a say in it, I'd forgo the trial and put a 9mm behind one ear. That saves a lot of money that could be used for mental health issues. I know...I'm an insensitive SOB; but I haven't commited a mass shooting in a HS.
Volga Vigilante Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Charlie Whiskers, Sorry, my post wasn't as clear as it should have been. It was not meant to be pro/con death penalty. I was trying to get at the "age of maturity " varies depending on what the mob wants it to be.

The age of maturity is whatever the one person is wanting it to be at the time. It's not a number set down by courts or politicians. The age of consent to get married varies from State to State, the age of consent to have a drink is set by the state a person resides in. The age of a person to join the military to serve and make all of us safe is 18. Yet now the ones wanting to be protected from foreign and domestic threats are the same ones that don't think the 18 year old that's in harms way isn't old enough to be a gun buyer. Or mature enough to own one. Die for their country yes, but too young to by a gun. I agree with you that the age of maturity varies with mob opinions at the time. I think the mob needs to get some brain maturity before opening their mouths and proving how immature they really are. Riots prove that point...burn down and loot the neighborhood they live in. Real Mature isn't it.
