All the Way!

Dad said that when they jumped 0300 D. Day they went out at an altitude of 600 feet. Not much time for the only shoot to open much less add the weight of a second shoot that would take the place of ammo.

I was in a NATO exercise in 69. We flew from England to Germany in a C47 in the dead of night, no moon. The pilot must have decided to re-enact D day. When we jumped, I felt my chute open, swung to the left, and as I started to swing to the right, much to my surprise, I hit Bavaria. Total elapsed time about 6 seconds. I just lay there taking stock of my condition to make sure my internal organs were still internal and listened to the thuds, grunts, and cries of  “Medic” around me. Lost two guys to injuries out of my already understrength team. The exercise lasted another 4 miserable days.

Weather was nice though.
