Cowboy Junky
So the trigger failed on my 73 after a few years. The sear and hammer are worn pretty bad so I ordered a new pair. The hammer I ordered has a sear face like that of broken glass. I called and complained and got two more that are equally poor quality. Are there any after market hammers? Are there any smith's that are good with trigger work that have a jig or way to lighten the trigger without fade? Any other tricks or advice? El Mulo Vaquero, SASS #55942
I made an adapter for the Powers stoning fixture, Series 1 & 2, to stone 73's in our shop . The same adapter holds the hammer as well. I have used this setup for many, many years. It can be rotated to any angle and positively stones flat surfaces. I have made adapters for many of our cowboy guns as well 66's, single actions, etc. Don't forget to harden the sears afterwards.
