The first one is the main stages at Railroad Flat up at Mokolomne Hill somewhere about 1985-1986 and the second one was me at the same match, back when I was a 22 year old kid and had a 28 inch waist! Not sure why I am only wearing one gun. This match changed my life. I met friends here including the late great Carl Ontis (Pawnee Bill), who got me interested in reenacting, which led to pursuing my interest in history, and eventually a Ph.D in historical archaeology. On top of that, we had a heck of a lot of fun. Sad to say, many of the old crowd are gone. But it was fun while it lasted. Jack Rojas Posted December 5, 2019 Share Posted December 5, 2019 Another side note about Diamond Dick. I had been knocking around SASS for less than a year when Cowboy Town became a reality. I rode out of the RimRock one snowy Winter's day to warm up and see this place for myself. I happened to Posse with DD and in fact shot right behind him. What a gentleman indeed and a great Pard. The description of his duty gun was what got me remembering though. During that day his gunsmith rode in to discuss some work on his wife's piece. That day DD shot a totally engraved set of Scofields with ivory or pearl grips along with an equally engraved rifle! As far as Rail Road Flat, I rode in and out of that Cow Camp a couple of seasons around their 25th anniversary. Fond memories of Peaceful 256 and Annie. They took me in and gave me my first taste of black powder, setting me down the trail where I eventually crossed paths with Laylow Curly and his Dammit Gang. I'm a recent member of SASS but attended EOT @ Coto De Caza (I believe it was 1987 and 1988) with my friend Jason and his father Gordon. I was playing other gun games at the time and, despite Gordon always making sure I had all the best shooting gear including for SASS, college got in the way then grad school, then a career and kids. SASS just never happened.. I've blinked and 30 years have passed.
