I figure winter is a great time to start planning for summer.  Does anybody know of a good source of very lightweight 100% cotton shirts.  The Cooler Cowboy shirts don't seem to work out here in our arid climate.  The 100% cotton shirts I've found tend to be very heavy.  And the lightweight shirts I've found are mostly polyester. Helllllllp. :(

I like some that Mad Mountain Mike and Miss Tabitha have carried.  Might check their tent at WR.  Made in South America if I remember right, certainly were 100% cotton.  Especially like the white or cream colored ones.   Don't know if that is what you consider heavy weight....but I don't.

Good luck, GJ

Do these folks have a web site or maybe a Facebook page for those of us that aren't likely to ever be at WR?

Wild West Mercantile has some very light weight all cotton shirts. I have a couple and prefer them to the J Hornady cowboy cooler shirts in really warm weather.  I don't remember which one exactly I bought, but I'm sure if you call them, they will guide you to the right shirt.

Going to visit them during Winter Range. Problem with ordering online is you can’t tell how heavy they are.

Those are awesome. And only $10. But I’d have to order 10 of them.

Bull,

if you decide to go this route; I'd go halves with you.

But I'm a little leary about their sizing.

I take the sleeves and shoulders out of mail order 2x about half the time and that going to be even harder for you.

Try a Tuxedo style shirt. Bought one when I got started from Burlington Coat Factory, now Burlington. Very light weight and inexpensive.

Last spring Orvis had a shirt in their catalog that was 50% hemp/50% cotton. It was the typical band collar with the half button front that most of us cowboys wear. It was expensive because it’s Orvis ($89) but I tell you it’s my favorite cowboy shirt ever. It’s not particularly light but it drapes and breathes better than any cotton shirt I have. I’ll be buying another one this year if they bring it back.

Problem with that around these parts is that someone might try to smoke it when you’re not looking.

You are safe as of yesterday, retail weed is legal in California.

Now as for ammo...

That don’t mean someone won’t still try to smoke it. Retail weed ain’t cheap I hear.

I guess it’s a good thing I reload. Not sure what other folks are going to do.

Yeah, quite a lot of sites claim specific measurements but more often than not they fall dreadfully short.  And I went back to look again.  They claim 2XL is from 50-52" chest.  That's already a tight fit so I like to go 3XL.  But they don't offer that shirt in 3XL. :(

Redwing has had some  but not sure if he will be at Winter Range, probably not.

As mentioned sizing can be an issue with these "overseas" made shirts.  You might find one to fit shoulders but sleeves to short.  I have found that if I can get room in shoulders but feel pull in arms, rolling up sleeves a tad is not to bad, especially in hot weather.  Suspect you know the feeling SB.

The shirt on site John Boy posted looks much like those I have bought from Redwing.

Bull, do what I have done a couple of times for one of my clubs - put in a large order for the shirts and other stuff on the site. All kinds of leather products including double holster engraved rigs for 70 bucks

Can't beat the prices including this ... Hey Amigo?

As for the cotton shirts, I have several muslin ones and ordered them years back.  In fact the shirt I'm wearing in the picture is one of them that I bought off their website and that was about 2003 ... which I still wear today

Will they have a booth at WR?

Call'em ahead of time and ask'em to bring any special shirts to the range.

Hi Bull,

I find that a textured shirt, like linen or seersucker, that distances itself from your body is cooler than a fine weave.

Have you tried J. Peterman. Following are links to some of their band-collar shirts.

I have one of the following shirts. It is what I was describing as textured.

Happy shopping!

I've had great success with the fishing shirts sold at Academy Sports.

We allow short sleeves in the summer down along the coast and these shirts come in both long and short sleeves.

I have a couple and they are my go-to for the 27 months of summer in Houston

I bet the biggest challenge for SB is finding 3XL shirts.

Remember that cotton srinks some over time, unless washed in cold water and hung dried.

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!!!

The recommendations in this thread are awesome, but they don't go up to 3XL :(
