Smokestack SASS#87384 Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 I can’t remember if I posted this here before or if I only posted it to FB, so if it’s old news, I apologize. I put this together to show how I clear a split case or bad crimp round from a ‘73. Hope this info is helpful to some of you.
Kingair Posted December 16, 2017 Posted December 16, 2017 Thanks Smokestack Rookie learned something . . . again !
CodyMaverick Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 That's a very slick maneuver and could be done very quickly in the split case scenario. In the fails to chamber scenario, not so much . It is likely that the extractor will have popped over the rim and now has a firm grasp on the round. You are going to have to get the round free of the extractor and get the bolt fully retracted in order to push the carrier back down. This would mean tilting the barrel down a bit while you pry up on the extractor till it lets go of the rim, then you'll have to open the lever all the way and tilt the barrel up since the round probably just slid part way down in to the mouth of the chamber. Now you may be able to push the carrier down, close the lever and eject it out the gate as shown. All of this is going to take a good bit of manual dexterity and/or a tool that may not be available in the heat of the moment. However; if you carefully inspect and gauge the ammo you plan to shoot in the match, both of these types of jams are virtually 100% preventable.
