Savage has resurrected the Fox SXS. Saw it one he cover of my American Rifleman this morning.  Anyone actually touched one yet?

Yep just found the price tag.  That is a lot to spend on a firearm that is going to get a lot of cart dings.

Still a very nice American Made shotgun and not an import

Hopefully after drumming up interest with their primo offering, they’ll bring out more plebeian versions.

Whoa!!

Nothing bad about Savage but for this kind of money the market opens . . .

Obviously this is not a gun for CAS.   On the other hand if it is as finished as those pictures seem to indicate, it could be a fine upland game gun that you and your family could treasure for generations to come.

I believe I'd rather spend half the money and get a Pedersoli Sharps. :P

If the American shooters wanted a splinter fore end and a straight stock, Ruger Gold Labels would still be around.  IMHO

The desires of American shooters change from year to year, sometimes month to month.  For 100 years American companies couldn't give a rifle chambered in 6.5 caliber away, now the 6.5 Creedmoor is all the rage.  Personally I find the Fox attractive.  Will it replace my Browning Citori 725 Sporting, probably not, but then again it would look good as I stroll behind a pair of well trained pointers wearing a tweed shooting jacket and a tam o' shanter with my pipe clenched in my teeth.  :)

Seriously it is a really nice looking gun.   Savage has been in the gun business a long, long time.  They have been on a roll lately.

Given that Savage has made some excellent center fire rifles that are very affordable. When I first saw this I though OH BOY a quality SXS at an affordable price. (somewhere in the SKB / BSS price range)

Oh Well.

No, but I'd like to... can I use your CC?

Recall Lone Watie in “The Outlaw Josey Wales”, holding up a piece of hard rock candy:

”It ain’t for eatin’, it’s for looking through...”

I was ready to order....until I saw the price! If they could make it in the $1200 range they would sell a bunch!

Rumour is that the 20" barreled version will be in that price range

HAHA, I wish!

But, we've seen MSRP high before, and actual selling price quite a bit lower.  I'm not sure where they could trim off $3800 though. Maybe cheaper wood?   A good American made shotgun would be nice.

I asked and Miss Lorrie said, NO!

In 1968 I decided I wanted a shotgun for Christmas.  She sent my Dad out with $200 to buy me one. I had my eye on a Fox cheapie but he brought home an Ithaca SKB 200E in 20 ga.

I've never regreted his decision.  It's taken everything shotgun legal in the statr of Missouri except a deer.

The first Christmas present from my wife in 1964 was a 16 ga. Fox Model B with 26" improved and modified barrels.  I had just begun to hunt grouse and quail with her father and needed a bird gun.  It is probably the one gun I will never sell.
