Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L
Just passing on info from MCRGO: REAL ID & Firearms Purchases Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson has asked MCRGO to notify all FFLs and private sellers of firearms that Michigan driver licenses and ID cards marked "Not for Federal Identification" are valid identification and should be accepted by firearms dealers. There have been some recent complaints to her office that some FFLs are refusing the cards for gun sales. The verbiage on the Standard card is to note that the license or ID card doesn't comply with the federal REAL ID mandate, which will require Michigan residents to have a compliant license to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities beginning Oct. 1, 2020. The REAL ID mandate doesn't affect a person's ability to purchase firearms. A Michigan license that isn't compliant with the REAL ID mandate is still valid ID for all purposes except boarding flights and entering some federal sites. More information is available on the SoS website HERE. Images of the cards can be found here: - Standard (Not for Federal Identification) - REAL ID-compliant HERE is an ATF newsletter that says non-REAL ID compliant licenses and ID cards are accepted for firearms purchases.
