Muzzleloaders In The Crosshairs

Muzzleloaders, the group said, are dangerous because they are specifically exempted from the NFA and it accuses the gun industry of trying to exploit that exemption.

"These laws prohibit convicted felons and other dangerous people from possessing guns, require gun retailers to be licensed, and require licensed retailers to conduct background checks on purchasers," the report said. "There is one blanket exception to these laws, however: the exception for antique firearms, including muzzleloaders. The gun industry is determined to exploit this exception."

Muzzleloaders, which require gunpowder and a projectile to be manually loaded down barrel of the firearm before each shot, and other antique firearms are exempt from the NFA. The antique firearm exemption applies to "any firearm not intended or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898 and also any firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1898, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade," according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The group views the centuries-old firearms technology, which was rendered obsolete shortly after the Civil War due to advancements in self-contained ammunition cartridges and semi-automatic; self-loading firearms, as dangerous because a silencer can legally be attached to it without the paperwork or tax stamp associated with other firearms silencers.

"Cue the .50 caliber muzzleloader, which delivers a particularly lethal .50 caliber round," the report said. "This weapon is designed with a built-in device to suppress its sound. If any other firearm were built with such a device, it would be subject to the NFA as a silencer. But since this device is designed to suppress the sound of something that is exempt from federal firearms laws, it is not considered a silencer and not subject to the NFA. In fact, it is not subject to any laws at all and can be bought online."

The idiocy is strong in them.

Sure hope they don't figure out that muzzle loaders come in .68 caliber. Their heads may just explode that a firearm exists in an even more lethal caliber than the wimpy .50 cal.

Wonder what they'll do when they figure out you can make your own black powder.

Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I think the manufactures are their own worst enemies. Just gives the grabbers something else to moan about---and is it really needed?

Actually, perhaps this is the way to go!!  Keep creating new things that they are obliged to address and maybe force them to admit that what they really want is total confiscation and a total ban on private ownership. Then people will see where they really stand!! The antis have denied for so long that they want a total ban and some still believe their lies!! Use tactics like this to make them show their hand!!

Meanwhile, entrepreneurs and manufacturers come up with new and better guns and accessories that serve our purpose.

After a while, the enemy is spread thinner and thinner and their resources are wasted on frivolous efforts that further illustrate their duplicitous, anti-civil rights intentions!!

The design is not all that good in that there is no way to disassemble the can for a good cleaning. All you can do is run water through it breach to muzzle or muzzle to breach. Won't be too long before it fills up with fowling or corrodes.

What matters is that someone thought of it and produced it and now the antis have to divert resources to put out another fire on another front because they’re so dead set on eliminating EVERY point of the Constitution, Second Amendment first.

Maybe they’ll stay stupid enough for long enough that by the time they’ve played out their string, everyone will see what they are and who they are and maybe things will change.

The ballot box might be positively effected if they are exposed once and for all!!

Feller kin dream kain’t he????

The press release is from the renamed Gabby Giffords/Mark Kelly "Gun Safety" group.  It just shows how these groups don't bother to become educated on firearms.  They don't even get the reason this modern muzzle stuffer is exempt from the NFA. The "Silencer" is not a silencer because the barrel design is designed to reduce the pressure of the hot gases at the muzzle.  Just like bump stocks & binary triggers the ATF has determined that these devices are not covered by the NFA.  Apparently the Congress in 1934 define covered devices with enough specificity to exclude these evil modern inventions.
