I was just reading the WTC thread on throwing a live shotgun round

into the port of a '97 and then reaching for more rounds for speed of reloading..

Bare with me here..

#1) Now there's a long gun laying on the prop..

No hands on??

Live round thrown in the opened port..

Hammer cocked..

"Benefit of the doubt?" goes to the shooter that the long gun

won't accidentally get bumped off the prop, close and fire??

But..

#2) Ya stage a rifle on the prop with action closed..

hammer accidentally cocked.. SDQ..

"Benefit of doubt?" doesn't go to the shooter..

he "might" have a round chambered??

Why?  If one long gun scenario is dangerous.. Why isn't the other?

1st. Scenario.. Shooter definitely loaded a round.. ( yeah action isn't closed)

2nd. Scenario.. Shooter might accidentally have a round chambered..

Thinkin' I shouldn't be thinkin' this hard..

Yep, thinking too much.  Start getting your stuff loaded and the truck packed winters coming and the drive south will give you lots of time to consider "what if".

Loading one on the prop, many people do it, but it is slow,  s l o w e r,  s  l  o  w  e  s  t.   However it is legal unless some di sass ter happens!!!!

I reckon this is the best answer we have??

"However it is legal unless some disaster happens!!"

I also reckon I made my post to light hearted..

This wasn't posted in jest but understanding..

Handling firearms will always pose some latent danger.  Long guns in SASS environments typically and by rule have their muzzles pointed down range.  Placing a round in a open shotgun receiver while it is resting flat on a prop while preparing to engaging targets is not unsafe.  Any more than levering your rifle before its in your shoulder and pointed at a target is.  We, meaning SASS, have a lot of rules regarding safety, following and understanding those rules will mitigate most of the "what If's".
