Las Vegas Shooting

Subdeacon Joe

Recommended Posts

Reported that there were .308 and .223 weapons  in the room, reported by the Sheriff in a news conference.

He was asked about their capacity, his comment was he did not know if the weapons had been modified or were

not, but they would be examined in detail. The FBI was doing a check on the computer found in his home.

In one of the videos I watched, the rate of fire varied considerably through the burst. I’m not well-versed in these things, but I don’t know any fully automatic rifles that do that. I wonder if he had one of these hand crank attachments? https://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/2016/02/05/putting-a-hand-crank-on-your-ar-15-trigger/

Some people (won’t name names to try and avoid the political morass) are saying this is evidence why we shouldn’t have silencers—can’t imagine this numbnut was using subsonic ammo.

The law I want to see enacted is the one that makes it illegal to mention the name of people who commit these acts. I have to wonder if a lack of publicity would decrease this horror, and I honestly can’t think of any reason why a person’s name is important to the populace. Refer to him as “Loser #18.”

He had a bunch of weapons firing one dry and picking up another model would give differing rates of fire. Might have had some full auto and some bump stocks. We'll find out eventually.

They dont check your baggage upon check in, just that your credit card works.  You could easily bring in components of all these firearms and reassemble in the room. He had been holed up in the suite for a while prior to this and is supposedly a regular on the strip.  So its safe to say, even after check in, he could have brought in whatever he wanted or needed that aided in his demented plot.  I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist though and dont think this was the work of a single man.

Listening to the videos, there are lags of 8-10 seconds between bursts.  Does anyone else find that odd?

No. He had set up two positions in a corner room to maximize his field of fire.

As far as getting the guns in,  just check in with one golf bag full of guns. Put the guns in the room. Later you go to the vehicle,  load up and bring it in again. No one would notice. Lots of golfers in LV.

That's the way to do it. I'm thinking hotel video will tell a lot about it in the coming days.

I thought the same thing.

You wouldn't even need a golf bag. You can break down most military weapons (AR15's, etc) and put 2 or 3 in a good size suitcase. I heard one guy speculating on how you could pack 500 rds of ammo around due to the weight. 1000 rds of .223's would easily fit in a SMALL suitcase and doesn't weigh THAT much.  Still don't know what caliber he used, but it would be no big trick.  I've traveled a good bit, I see people lugging enough baggage in tow to carry a whole crap load of weapons and ammo. Just the way it is.

A CBS vice president had been fired for making nasty comments about the attendees of the concert.

Hilary has already made remarks about the shooting, tying this to current legislation, the NRA, and the powers that be.

The number of guns found in the suspecst's  room has increased throughout the day, the most recent count by one news organization being 23!!

There is NO place in this tragedy for politics at this time!!

I'll sit back down now and watch and listen for a while longer!!

Yes!  Most of my friends are not particularly gun friendly and I see this constantly.  It is frustrating and saddening.

Question: most SASS / CAS shooters are pretty proficient at moving a lot of guns around at matches.  How many of you could smuggle a large number of guns into a hotel / casino without attracting some official attention?

So far, checking into a hotel with multiple gun cases has not been an issue. No smuggling involved, just carrying gun cases in the open. I am betting that might now change in some/a lot of places. Some folks are going to absolutely pi$$ themselves over seeing anyone carrying gun cases through a lobby now. In the past, every time I have checked into a motel I am wearing all my cowboy clothing and THAT is what people see, not so much of what is on my luggage cart. Traveling and motel-ling just got harder, I postulate.

Time for a camper and just stay at the match site avoiding all the hassle?

Time to modify musical instrument cases and dress in a marching band uniform to keep low profile?

Ugh...

He was a multimillionaire with high roller status in LV. It was said he checked with 10 pieces of luggage which for a high end hotel in LV isn't anything out of the ordinary. This was no spur of the moment deal. He even thought to bring a glass breaker. Hell I'll bet he was even comp'd the room.

The latest report I saw said he had 11 "bump-stock" attachments on different rifles.  For those of you unfamiliar with these, they allow you to simulate full auto fire.  They are currently legal to own (I bet that changes very soon).

The current outcry by anti-gun government officials never like to mention other facts.  If they're really against gun violence, how come nothing is ever done about the over 4,000 shooting and over 760 shooting deaths in Chicago last year?  These shooting occur year after year, but these statistics will not be mentioned because it isn't PC.  Instead the press will again demonize the NRA and gun owners.

Not to be rude but what is the legislation on full auto's in the US

P.S. I am from Australia

VERY hard to get legally here.

Some of our states do not allow them at all for civilian ownership.

Not particularly hard to get depending on where you live, (Out of the question in places like California, New York, Chicago, Massachusetts, etc) but there is a background check required, a Federal tax, and the weapons themselves are very very expensive. So far the indication is this guy used some legal bump stock rifles. Don’t know if he had any illegally modified or legally purchased full autos. The ATF would know immediately if he had any permitted full auto arms.

I had never heard of a bump stock before this incident. Were they developed for military or police use?

No, Police and military can legally get full auto with no restrictions.

Bump fire or slide fire stocks were developed for regular folks to turn money into noise in a shorter period of time.

With a little practice you can bump fire just about any semi-auto rifle without any add-ons.

What happened was truly a tragic scene committed by a nut job with too much money and time on his hands to go see a head shrinker. Now the Media, Politicians, and Gun grabbers will have a field day for a few months....

Those noted above are the States with the most gun deaths each year. Illinois being the highest. Probably close to the number in Vegas in 2 months. How many guns were legally bought in those States? I'd venture a guess NONE... Gangbangers don't fill out a 4473 form. It doesn't take a full auto firearm to cause a LOT of carnage. How many people were killed and maimed when that bozo ran his car into a crowd not too long ago. Are we going to try to ban Auto- Mobiles...not just Auto- Guns. Yeah right...that'll happen.

Good possibility.  Echos do strange things around buildings.

That technique only requires a pair of jeans and a belt loop...

The "stocks" that yield this same effect just take a little practice to get the sensation of full auto from these types of devices. Not terribly accurate, just generally an add-on for the effect and lots of noise and wasted ammo.

Has anyone tried one of these? I bought one of those Hellfire gizmos once, it wasn't much punkin'. Could never get it to fire more than 3 rounds per burst. Only way I could get it to work even that well was hip shooting with only my finger in the trigger so the recoil could "rock" the gun. Sold it at a garage sale. All being said, anything that would work somewhat would require no great marksmanship to hose a huge crowd, even from 300+ yards away.

My 2 cents,

JHC

Google The Gun control Act of 1934, $200.00 tax stamp, extensive background check and paper signed by the Sheriff of your county, mayor or chief of police in your city or the county prosecutor! It takes at least 3 months for the process usually more! Since they are not available new anymore you must buy what's out there and they're really, really expensive!!!:o
