Warning Points

Recommended Posts

Hello Folks,

The SASS Wire has the ability to track warning points. So far, they have rarely been used. They will be assigned when a forum user posts in a manner that is forbidden by the Guidelines. Only the user, the Administrator, and Moderators can see any Warning Points assessed against a user’s account. This includes registered Guests as well as Members.

Warning points are assessed in the following manner. Also listed are the potential ramifications of accruing points: Our focus will be on stopping rudeness, not on assigning points when someone inadvertently does something that is prohibited by the Guidelines. A common example of a inadvertent mistake is a Guest selling in the Classified Forum.
  • 1 point per infraction unless it's egregious, like; threats, offensive rants or extreme behavior. That would warrant 3 points and then an automatic "Time Out"
  • 3 points = 3 month Time Out
  • 4 points = 4 month Time Out
  • 5 points = Banned Indefinitely
  • 6 points = Permanent Ban, this is only likely after a member has had an indefinite ban reversed.

NOTES:
  • The term “Time Out” equates to “Loss of Privileges”.
  • A warning point will be automatically removed after 365 days.
  • An indefinite ban may only be reversed by writing SASS Headquarters. They will contact the Moderators to reach a consensus on the Banned Wire user’s potential reinstatement.
  • Any Moderator may assign warning points. They will frequently ask the others for opinions on the transgression.
  • The Guidelines are viewed when a member Registers and a copy can be read using the following link. https://www.sassnet.com/forums/index.php?/topic/264105-sass-forum-guidelines/
  • A ban or Time Out may be given without any Warning Points or less than the listed number for some infractions. Examples are physically threatening another member or multiple PM Warnings before the WP system was implemented.

This thread will be unpinned after approximately a month and a locked copy will be retained on the FAQ page. Please ask questions here and any modifications approved by the Moderators will be included in the locked copy.

Regards,

The Moderating Team

Can a first time offender apply for a diversion?

Most folks get a friendly PM to let them know they made a mistake before they would get a point. Maybe more than one PM.

Heck, everybody makes mistakes. I have and I am a Mod now. This system is more for habitual shirkers, malcontents and "stirrers of the pot".

I fixed the link on the OP. Lesson learned. Always use the little link box for inks. I wrote this elsewhere; then, copied and pasted.

I removed all of the posts about the link to streamline the thread.

In an old Network Admin mail list I was a member of we called it "Posting While Intoxicated" or PWI.  It got to a point where folks would regualrly label their stuff PWI before even starting off on the rant so that those that didn't want to read them could skip them.  I found them mostly funny myself...

Am I correct that the warning point "box or whatever" only shows up if you have 1 or more?

I checked one of my old posts and didn't see any warning points boxes on the left side under my avatar

and I'm hoping stupidity in and of itself is not a reason for one

Hi CR,

Thank you for mentioning this. I do not see where you have a Warning Point field under your avatar. It was there in the past (pre the "big change"), ie. visible to Moderators and the individual. I know this as several people posted asking about it. I even tested on Titus, then removed the WP.

I just gave a Warning Point last week. In the WP window, I could text a message to the Moderators and the "lucky recipient." :o I hope they got the messages. Unfortunately, the WP reason showed as SPAM, which was not what I selected. So, I'm not sure if it the WP process is "bug free." Shall I use you as a test subject? ;)

I just looked at that individual and the WP shows, to me, on his profile, not under his avatar.

Regards,

AM

Can we call them "demerits" instead of warning points? Seems more appropriate. ;)

Does it really matter what the infractions are called unless one has earned one or more because of their manner?

warning - serving to warn, advise, caution

demerit - a mark against a person for misconduct or deficiency

What, no double secret probation?

I'll reserve that for Moderator bashers. It's just BAM, BYE BYE without notice.

Reality 101 I believe the first line of action is a person's description listed above their avatar:D Then the warning:( I for one ask please don't name them demerits. I got so many of those every week in grade school it ain't funny. Got them on Friday, had to be signed by a parent and returned Monday. Even got one for failing to take a test, I was sick that day???

Having a description above your avatar is a term of endearment. Black Harris gave me mine. He also named Utah Bob as The Man. There is nothing derogatory there. I've given those names to people who wrote me that they didn't like them. So, I immediately removed them. Shall I remove yours? I can't even remember why I gave it to you. PM me, if you like.

I can identify with the grade school thing. One day, I was late for Kindergarten. The teacher shook me in front of the class. Sheesh, she was a tyrant. Her name was Miss Blizzard. After all, what 5 year old walks to school alone. My mother took me. I'd have liked to see her try to shake my mother. First grade was even worse.

Mine is my term of endearment given to me by one of my most loved and favorite gals, Ms. Allie Mo:wub: And I'm so glad you don't remember the reason why:D With me of course it had to do with joking around, a bit of a devilish thing as I recall. Ahh demerits the memories we have and of course my endearment may stay forever.;) So don't be sad!

BTW, you bash a Moderator, you may just get a three-month time out with no notice.

That should be a permanent ban, IMO!

You couldn't have made a more heart-warming post unless it had a kitty photo in it.
