Hornady FTX Bullets from an 1860 Henry

Recommended Posts

So I have the urge to load some FTX 225 gr bullets in my .45 Henry (Uberti); maybe take some 75 yard deer shots.

I have the Hornady loading manual.  I load almost exclusively Win 231, which, of course, is not included in Hornady's load chart.

So, out of those that are listed, and bearing in mind the rifle I'm using, which powder would you choose?  (Please, no load info; just a powder preference from those on the chart)

Longshot, True Blue, Accurate No. 5, IMR SR-4756, HS-6, Blue Dot, VIHT N-105 ?

Much appreciated.

LL

PS - I know I need to trim my cases for this bullet.

Answered my own question.  The on-line data does not include .45 Colt rifle, just pistol.  THE OAL is different, as is the trimmed cartridge length.

The problem here is that the Henry will not chamber a factory loaded .45 Colt FTX - it's too long by a hair.  I was hoping that now that they have data for a rifle load, that they have taken the OAL into consideration.

That's why I am just asking for the benefit of anyone' experience on the powders listed in the OP.
