Sedalia Dave Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Found some videos of the damage Irma inflicted on the Florida Keys. Most don't tell where in the keys they were filmed US 1 is all but impassable through out most of the island chain due to all the boats, cars, houses, trees, power lines and mangroves that Irma relocated. I haven't discovered any definitive proof that all of the bridges are still intact, but US 1 is severely damaged in a few places. There is no electricity so no gasoline. Officials are not allowing anyone in as they try open US-1 and conduct a house to house search. The National Guard sent a convoy of supplies south this morning and C-130s were headed to Key West with supplies as well. Officials have told people NOT to enter the Keys by boat due to all the debris in the water.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 The news media has not made it very far south due to the roads and bridges being closed. I have a friend who is a deputy in Monroe County. There is significant destruction in the middle keys where the eyewall hit. The talking heads are focused on Tampa, Jacksonville and Miami. The hotels are nicer there.
