Sedalia Dave Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Florida elementary students praised for folding American flag in pouring rain Quote Two Florida elementary school students are being praised for their show of respect for the American flag despite the pouring rain. Isaac Davis and Nate Helmath, both 11 years old, are safety patrols at Coppergate Elementary School in Middleburg and are in charge of lowering Old Glory at dismissal time. However, last week, a torrential rainstorm passed over the school, making flag duty a wetter-than-usual experience. Still, driving rains could not stop Isaac and Nate from doing their duty. The two brought the flag down and completed the 13 folds while standing in the pouring rain. This is what RESPECT looks like at Coppergate,” they wrote. “We are so proud of Nate and Isaac for their responsibility, respect, devotion to duty and love of country.” Nate, whose parents served in the military, told FOX30 that it was “the respectful thing to do.” “I feel like we have good people in the country and that we should all be good,” Isaac added. The school’s media specialist, Kim Emikowski, took the photos and shared them on Facebook. “They were folding the flag reverently. They were reverent. And they were doing 13 folds … and you know, our country is in a little bit of turmoil … it just struck me,” she told the news station. “When they walked away they held it… cradled it to protect it. And it was just a moment that was meant to be, I think.”
Calamity Kris Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Absolutely. Looks like those two are being raised well!!!
Ramblin Gambler Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 I was a safety patrol at my elementary school. We never got to do anything cool like handle the flag. Our flag was put up and taken down by the janitor and he didn't care about how it was folded or if it hit the ground or anything.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 The light in our future. There are many more who go unrecognized every day... like the young lady who sings the National Anthem, and does a remarkable job of it, every Monday morning at the middle school down the block from my home. How about the fifth graders who convinced their art teacher that they "needed" to make cards expressing their gratitude for veterans for Veterans Day, and then talked about forty other kids to join them. They creaed nearly four hundred cards and very respectfully handed them out at the parade. There are a lot more than we hear about, doing their patriotic thing each day.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Respect is in short supply in some of the big cities, but not in small town America. In about an hour I will be heading over to Monticello with the VFW members from our post to line the street as the procession carries Utah National Guard soldier Staff Sgt Aaron Butler's body through town from the airport. There will be hundreds of citizens paying their respects and the schools will be letting the students out to participate. Rest in Peace SSG Butler. Your memory will be honored.
