thunderstorm during the eclipse

so much for that.  my kids school opted to let out the kindergarden class but issue glasses to the other grades.  I opted to pick the all up early and take them home to see it on TV and look outside to see the effects.  My wife is out of town for a dr appt and one child is home sick so i am glad i did as it is a mess picking them up in the rain at normal hours.  they saw more here than they would have at school since the storm rolled in as time for the eclipse drew near.  watched NASA on TV and the local news channel and had good coverage.  the hype was overblown as i knew it was having seen one as a child at school.  Im not sure why the tv showed crowds gathered to sit on the grass to see it and why the crowds chanted and cheered.
