Butch McGie, SASS#71758
Where might I find load data for a 107 gr bullet in .38 Long Colt? Or is that bad idea? I was think one might get less muzzle flip.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
You will probably never find a load for a 107 grain bullet is that is a truly odd ball weight and there isn't much data on the .38 Long Colt. Go here and use the data for the 125. Check with a Chrony and adjust as necessary. Unless you already have .38 Long Colt brass use .38 Special. Easier to find and lots of load data. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol
Butch McGie, SASS#71758
I do have brass as I use the round in my open tops . I didn't know if using data for slightly heavier bullets would include the jump from 125 to 107. Someone gave me 100 107 poly coat bullets, and I thought "hmmm". Rio Brazos Kid
Butch, You can always use data for a heavier bullet than the one you are loading, but not the other way around. So you can use data for a 125 gr bullet with your 107 gr. bullets without any problem. You could start with the low load for the heavier bullet, as shown in Hodgdons book in the Cowboy Action section, which would probably be about right on velocity with the 107 gr. bullet. Icebox McSnuggles
I am no expert on reloading but if you're unsure about load data couldn't you use trail boss and the 70% rule?

The site I posted has Trailboss data. As previously noted data for a 125 is an OK starting point for a 100 or 107.

Depends on the gun, I certainly wouldn't risk guessing at it in my Colt 1901. The only load published in a manual I can find is in Hodgdon 25th edition. 150gr lead, 18gr FFFg 770fps I do not find loads in the 1990 editions of Lyman or Lyman Cast Bullets. Hodgdon's online data center has loads. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistolhttps://loaddata.com/MetallicSearchResults http://www.handloads.com/loaddata/default.asp?Caliber=38 Long Colt&Weight=All&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=
