We also offer Senior Gunfighter, though it is not an official SASS category

Outlaw category allows the rifle to be shot from either the hip or the shoulder, however some clubs do not allow rifles to be shot from the hip.

Yes it would. There's no such thing as a "la patron"

Let's not be judgmental now that we are in the age of what many schools are calling gender fluidity.

Haha well I guess you've got a point there.

If ya ain't figured out what you are by the time you're 80, it probably ain't gonna happen.

At 80, it's the forgetting what you are that is the problem.

How many categories is that.....I ran out of fingers?

Too many or not enough depending on the shooter ;)

Since we're offering the "OFFICIAL" SASS and WB ones + a few local 'near and dear' thought the least we could do it get the name correct.

Someday we'll be collapsing all them into Cowboy and Cowgirl as attendance drops off (I know these are actual categories but was attempting to be humorous--I'm taking time to spell this out for those that have had a humor-ectomey

The 80 & above are now called La Patron, & La Partoness, according to our TG.

Hello,

I am a TG and read the TG wire daily (when I'm home). I have not heard of any official (in the SHB) category changes. The SH only lists age-based categories to

"Elder Statesmen/Grand Dames are competitors 70 years of age or greater."

Any other categories for older shooters are at the MD's discretion.

That is true.  The "unofficial" categories are getting out of hand.  You are correct that Patron and La Patrona are at the MDs discretion.  (As well as Senior Gunfighter, Silver Senior Duelist and a host of other "unofficial" categories.)  Misty annouced at the Winter Range TG meeting that if offered, the name should be La Patrona.  Since these are unofficial and not listed in the SHB the names seem to fluctuate a bit.  I just noticed we have "Patronette" listed on the 2018 WR application.

Question: Is Senior Duelist a Male and Female combined category? There's Lady Gunfighter, Lady Wrangler, Lady Duelist, Etc. Reason I ask is a shoot I was at not long ago the MD said it's not a gender separate category.

LOL!  Just tell MD there are "no men's categories." From the SHB: "All SASS categories may be subdivided by gender (e.g. Lady Duelist, Lady Gunfighter, Lady 49‘er, Lady Wrangler, etc.). Competitors may compete within any category for which they qualify. There are no men‘s categories."

Just a quick question.  Why are there two categories for every category?  For instance, why is there a male category for gunfighter and female category for gunfighter, and the list goes on and on.

SASS recognizes shooting categories based upon age, gender, costuming, equipment, shooting style, and/or propellant.  The age for a competitor is determined by their age on the first day the match starts.  All SASS categories may be subdivided by gender (e.g. Lady Duelist, Lady Gunfighter, Lady 49‘er, Lady Wrangler, etc.).  Competitors may compete within any category for which they qualify.  There are no men‘s categories.

I understand that SASS recognizes male and female categories, but why?  In Wild Bunch females shoot with the men, with no problems.  The amount of categories that SASS has now is getting to be an overkill.   Men and women are physically different, but it is not like we are throwing the shot putt, or tossing beer kegs over a wall.  All we do, both men and women is draw a pistol, shotgun and a rifle and shoot some targets.   I realize that SASS has the mind set that everyone gets a trophy, but it is getting out of hand.  When you attend a state shoot and attend the banquet, you sit for 2 1/2 hours while all the category winners are announced.  In my opinion, I think it is time to combine/trim some of the categories.

Did you miss the part in the quoted (2x, BTW) section from the SASS SHOOTERS HANDBOOK that states "There are no men's categories"??

RECOGNIZED AND ADDITIONAL CATEGORIES

Four Categories are always offered: Traditional and Modern (for men and boys only), and Lady Modern and Lady Traditional

If there are enough shooters and demand warrants it, age based categories such as seniors may be offered.

PaleWolf.  I did refresh myself with the handbook.  You are correct as there are no men's categories.  My question is, why can't a category just be duelist, and the men and women shoot in that category, why is there a Lady duelist category?  Gun fighter, all male and female shooters shoot in that category, etc.

The category regs say "may be subdivided"...not "must be".

A Match Director could offer just the basic categories without doing so, but that would most likely be detrimental to attendance numbers.

IMO

How embarrassing, we double the amount of categories in uspsa, idpa and 3gun combined, with some left over.
