Joe Breed
Anyone know where to get a longer stock for a Winchester 73?
Ace_of_Hearts
Much depends on if you wish to maintain the original curved profile. If you don't, you can simply cut the stock flat or add a spacer to make it flat and fill in the top tang hole with filler. Then add sufficient spacers to lengthen the stock and cover with a butt cover. Much like adding a very thick recoil pad. Making a longer stock is significantly more involved. An intermediate stock must be made (assuming you wish to keep the original) This intermediate stock is the cut off at the smallest point and at a point just before the butt plate. The front and back pieces are then placed between a longer piece of wood (to your specs)than the intermediate stock. This is then profiled to fit the two end pieces. The intermediate stock is then used to make a longer butt stock from a single blank. This is liable to cost you more than the original gun due to the time involved. Cat Brules
You might wish to have a new stock made. They can sell you one of their unfinished stocks or make a longer custom one for you, unfinished or finished. I've worked with this company before and they did.a good job: Macon Gunstocks, LLC (660) 438-4697
