I received my final payout from the Department of Justice this week, so I reckon I'm officially semi-retired. :) I'll file for Social Security in February, then just hang out waiting for the Grim Reaper I guess.

Congratulations! A hint, here, Try to stay active, don't just veg out. I've lost too many ex co-workers that just camped on their rump after retirement. At least as much as you're physically able to ,that is:blush:

I'm semi-retired. I still work but when I want since I'm self employed and have my own piano tuning and repair service. It's a great part time job that pays very well for the hours you put in. As long as I'm healthy I'll do this for as long as I can!;)

I sat behind a desk the last 4 years, and it was literally killing me. I've been on terminal vacation for over two months, and about a month ago decided 365 pounds was a tad too much. Now, I'm a tall guy, like 6'4"+, but that's still just too much. I started walking a few miles every day, really watching my calories (scanning app that interfaces with Fitbit), cut out milk, soda, Miracle Whip, Ranch dressing, ketchup, etc, started drinking lots of water, and I've lost 30 pounds in 24 days now. My goal is to be at, or below, 300 when the snow flies.

Man, that's inspirational!  Losing weight is HARD!  Your willpower and dedication is impressive.  Keep at it until you feel "right".  I've been behind a desk for 40 years, and I'm paying the physical price for it now.  Enough is enough.

Ditto.  Been a tuner for 49 years.  It's been an interesting vocation that I still work at--although there's a lot less "work at" then there use to be.  Was always nice I could adjust my schedule to fit in what I wanted to do.

Howdy,

STOP. Don't retire.

I met a fella who had a big time job.

His neighbor ran a landromat and someone quit and the neighbor was

going on vacation and real hard pressed for help.

So the new retired guy filled in for a couple weeks.....

Some YEARS later the retired fella finally passed.

He told me that part time job got him up and dressed and he added about 12 grand

to his pension and never had so much cash on hand.

If he needed a few days off or a couple weeks, he just let the 'boss' know and went.

Very friendly relation and great trainer for  kids that were hired.

He worked from 8-12 five days a week.

Something to think about.

ps-its bettern sitting in docs waitin room.

get a good check up even if you have to pay every penny.

Call up the Boy Scout office in Helena and volunteer to be a Commissioner.

You'll meet a bunch of good people, be as busy as you want to be, and have fun doing it... ;)

Retirement is what you make of it.  I see too many retired people sit around all day and get fat.  This leads to more health problems where they can't walk or bend. Its downward spiral that is hard to get out of.

Then there is the people who retire and get involved in hobbies and or volunteer and they are still walking and moving when they are in thier late 80's.  I volunteer at western history museum 1 day a week. The guy who runs it is 77.  The guys building the jail are in thier late 60's or 70's.

Its your choice.

Retired 17 years ago, strange things happen when you retire. 1st, haven't had a day off or a vacation since. Every day is a vacation. 2nd, learn to say "NO" or you will be more busy than when you did work. Now a strange thing, even with C.A.S. , woodworking, fishing, hunting that I now do, I actually have more money than when I retired. That is a really big +++

I retired in 1987 and kept active.  So far this year, I have walked 708 measured miles or, 1140 kms.

Retired last September after 43 years. Wife still isn't retired. I am now full time Cowboy Shooter and Grandpa on call. Keeps me busy. Enjoy your retirement. Come on over to NE Ohio and shoot with us sometime.

Congratulations J Bar, I've been retired now for 2 1/2 years, haven't had a boring day yet. It must be because of all the matches I get to shoot now!
