Three Foot Johnson Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 I live on a few hundred acres several miles out of town, and all my cats have finally died off or disappeared, so I checked Craigslist and found an ad in Helena that read: Young and healthy, have been neutered and vaccinated. Wild, and just need a good place to live, they'll earn their keep. Must have appropriate shelter. No fee, just looking for a place for them to live. No phone number, so I replied that I'd take 3 or 4 if they still had any. The reply: Yes I still have a few. They are wild, and the only way to keep wild cats around is to shut them into the barn for a few days while they settle down, otherwise there’s too much chance they will just run off. But with this heat, most barns are like saunas. If yours stays cool, then we could possibly relocate them. Otherwise it’s going to have to wait until the weather is just a bit cooler. OK... I replied that I would keep them in the garage for a couple days before I turned them out. The reply: These cats are too wild to want to use a garage as their shelter. And they have to have a place that is established as a safe shelter for them during the winter. If you have some sort of a barn, or other outbuilding that they can get into all year, that is staying cool, then we can relocate some cats to you. I have been taking the ones I’ve placed to their new homes, and plan to do that with these last few I have. OK... my barn is 96 x 38 but, like most barns, it isn't exactly cat proof - there are several places a cat could escape. So I started perusing Craigslist again for some other cats and found the same guy has the same ad listed in Butte, Missoula, and Great Falls too... what's up with that? Just casing remote, out of the way places for things to steal later or something?
