Alright, I'd like to hope that my opinion counts for something here. I usually don't post but I decided to log in for this.

For those who don't know me, Hi I'm Pecos Nick.

My first cowboy match was March 5th, 2012. The category I shot that day was buckaroo, but the shooting style I used was a one-handed unsupported method I'd come to learn was called Double-Duelist. The first time I ever picked a six-gun up, I shot it duelist. I seriously thought that was how a Single Action was meant to be shot. Boy was I right.

I eventually quit shooting Buckaroo and made my way into the Duelist division with no regret. In the five and a half years I've been shooting, I have shot duelist style at every match with one exception (So I strayed from the righteous path once, I'm not perfect).

Duelist means an awful lot to me. Many consider it to be one of the hardest shooting styles to compete with. I can't really deny this. Anyone who shoots duelist automatically has my respect. It takes a special kind of drive and dedication to stick with this category for years on end, or at least that's my opinion. It simply isn't the "easy" way. That's a thread that should bind us all. I totally agree that we should create an organization to support each other just as the gunfighters have.

And for those gunfighters out there, I'm not trying to knock you guys. I've studied the style enough to know that it takes a lot of work to master it. But in terms of speed, there is a clear advantage to drawing both guns at once. Thus it is my belief that it is harder for a duelist to place higher in overall standings than gunfighters.

All of you can definitely count me in for this endeavor. I definitely have plenty of further ideas I would like to pitch, if you all would care to hear.

As far as names go, four come to mind:

Dead-Shot Duelists

League of One Handed Shootists

League of Extraordinary and Apt Duelists (L.E.A.D.)

League of Rip-roaring Duelist Shooters (L.O.R.D.S)

Names aren't exactly my specialty though.

No not at all!!! Gunfighter's are frustrated duelists who have to alternate guns, like you would really do that in a real gunfight! C'mon you know Duelists are the Coolist!!:P

Would you really bother to think about alternating in a gunfight? I think not! Duelists are the shooting the way it was done back in the day! After all look at all the movies!!:P:P

I have shot double duelist from my first match 12 years ago. I am not the best at it by far, but I love shooting duelist and helping other shooters learn the coolist way to shoot cowboy. I am in, let's make this happen.

Like others in this thread,  I started out shooting 2 handed (combat) on one gun. Kept up that nonsense for 2 yrs, and it never felt really natural. Switched to double duelist in '15 and would never think of shooting any other manner.

And, gunfighters are just double duelist who stutter. :P

I'll alter Pecos Nick's a wee bit, giving him credit -  League of Extraordinarily Accurate Duelist - LEAD

Count me in! Our ranks have been dwindling terribly. Need more folks to step up and shoot those pistols the way they were meant to be shot, one handed. :D

We could call ourselves the One Handed Masters and this could be our symbol:

Been shooting Double Duelist from day one. Like others have said lots of fun great transitions etc. I have seen some video on FB and the Duelist Catagory looks well represented at EOT this year. Count me In, what can we all do to help.

Pat,

can that Omega symbol be turned upright, like a horseshoe?   You could use that symbol (or a horseshoe that looks like it) and create a horse (black stallion) name Omega.

And like the JEDI, you could have an 'OMEGA' group, similar to the JEDI.   The JEDI have minimal 'must have' qualifications such as RO status and shooting GF for atleast the past whole year.   Plus, there are other intangibles that garner the approval of the JEDI Council, especially one who is a good ambassador for our sport/game.

Just some harmless input that might help you get those brain cells churnin.

Oh no, no, no ...I didn't start this. Rye did. I am just helpin' out throwing in suggestions. :D

Just wondering why a Council?

Show of hands...How many of you sought the counsel of a Council before you took to shooting and participating in the art of a Duelist? ....C'mon, get em up there. Don't be shy...Hmmm, no one...

Rye, do we need a "Council"? Anybody, do we need a "Council"?

PAT,  didn't mean to accidentally get you involved.   My bad.

Anyhow, when RYE mentioned 'JEDI' in his OT,  I thought I would just share some of the structure of the JEDI.

Just trying to share a little (hopefully helpful) info.

I'll bow out now.

i have been shooting duelist since I started this game 25 years ago.  Switched to FCD and now at 77 I still shoot duelist.  The Ruger Old Armies are getting a little heavy but still making smoke.  Put in conversion cylinders several years ago to make reloading easier and quicker.  Never look back.

Okay, aside from me insultinh Widder - sorry Widder,

I woke up to this: (yeah, I'm weird) - and this by no means means I am pushing this - It just popped into my head.

Omega Pistoleers - The last Pistoleers "Practitioners in the art of the Duelist".

Then I thought about it a bit and thought "Latin". The People of the late 19th Century just loved their Latin.

Using Widders ideas on the post before his last and that of those fellas that shoot with both guns blazing, I thought Specialists could be Duelists that practice the art of the duelist and Masters could be those that have won matches shooting duelist.Well the word "Practitioners" translates to "Medicus", which means "The Doctor".

That wasn't what I was looking for. So I played around a bit and I used the words Masters and Specialists and here is what I found on Yandex and Perseus (Latin translators on line)

Specialists in the art of the Duelist: Periti in arte Certatior

Masters in the art of the Duelist: Magistri in arte Certatior

Omega Pistoleers - The Last Pistoleers "Periti in arte Certatior"

Omega Pistoleers - The Last Pistoleers "Magistri in arte Certatior"

It's a bit puffed up but this is what I was thinking about. Now I will have some more coffee and get ready for my match. :D

Here's another idea I had that goes in a bit of a different direction:

The Chivalric Order of the Duelist

250px-House_Glover.PNG

The governing body could be known as: The Round Table

All standard members shall be known as: Knights Templar (or maybe just Knights)

Black Powder Shooters shall attain the Rank of: Black Knights

All Senior members shall attain the Rank of: Knight Marshals

All Duelists who have yet to be affirmed into the order will possess the rank of: Squire

One chosen member each year shall attain the prestigious rank of: Paladin

I like the idea of us having a gauntlet as part of our logo. Among knights, throwing a gauntlet to the floor was an act that signified a challenge to a duel.

I LIKE IT!

I wouldn't do the Templar thing. But How about Knights Magistri, you know Knights Master! I'd be down for that. Or Magister Militum, Master Knight.

You could change the shield. Make the gauntlet smaller so that it's holding a SAA across the top, the marshal on the bottom, and put a Ribbon under stating something like "Magistri una Manu" Masters of the single hand.

Also, I've been to two largish matches and I was the only duelist competing. I like winning first but I'd like some competition. I'd rather lose but have some fellow duelists than win by default.

I will also state that shooting Duelist makes shooting Outlaw much easier.

1995, started as a duelist using smokeless equivalent of full cases of black powder

2000 moved over to frontier cartridge duelist using full cases of black powder.

2005, had a problem with Afib. Almost a dead duelist.

2006 tried Classic Cowboy. Went back to duelist.

2007, shooting double duelist now.

2015 shot duelist and plainsman at Bordertown.

2017, still shooting duelist and plainsman.

The only thing I don't like about shooting duelist is rain and mud.
