Was it an SKS?

ABC news website said the thug who attacked our leaders yesterday used an "assault weapon" and then said it was an SKS.  Is that what he used?  an SKS has a fixed magazine and only holds 10 rounds, and is semi automatic.  since when is that considered an assault weapon?

Freedom of the Press does not mean "required to exhibit truthfulness, intelligence or decorum".

An ASSAULT WEAPON is anything a lawmaker or a newscaster says it is.

Since the term was invented so it could be outlawed, it can be used for anything.

As far as the media is concerned any long gun used to shoot someone is an assault weapon. They remain clueless.

Even with a 100 round magazine,an SKS is not an "assault weapon".

The MSM does not so much broadcast Fake News as what I call  Incompetent and Slanted News with an agenda.

I'm hearing that the rifle was "an AK47-type" rifle.  AK and SKS ammo, TYPICALLY is 7.62 x 39mm Russian.  This is a ~.30 caliber military round, usually FMJ, in a steel, lacquered case.  It's approximately equivalent to about a .30-30 Winchester round.  This surplus or new manufacture ammo is likely the round the shooter was firing in whatever rifle he was using. I've heard nothing about the shooter using an M15/AR15 caliber .223 weapon.

Who knows?  Maybe it will come out.  Personally?  I think if he was shooting .223 or 5.56 ammo, the victims would have dropped like rocks.  But, that is just what I think.

i have a 5-round fixed magazine in my modified Chinese "paratrooper" (short version for export) model.  It's chambered in the Russian 7.62.

For the most part the press considers any semi-auto center fire rifle to be an "assault weapon."   Some even extend that courtesy to tricked out Ruger 10-22s.

I've see people run like rabbits after taking 5.56 rounds. Depends on where you took it, and how motivated you are to get out of Dodge.

The Pic on our news tonight called it an "SKS assault rifle", It looked like an AK to me, but not sure as I don't play much with 'em and they only showed it briefly.

When I was a kid and someone said that they were a "Reporter" I had respect for them.

Now, I stay away from them as I don't want to get whatever it is they're infected with.

I was just looking for photos of the gun used in this crime yesterday. I am curious what an SKS Assault Rifle looks like. I saw morons comparing the SKS to M4's AR-15s, AK-47's and other so-called "evil guns".  Not one of them actually showed a photo or even researched what an SKS actually is or how they are configured. Granted, the dead piece of excrement may have modified it but the police won't release info and the media feeds on stupidity. Sometimes I think this is by design.

Yup.

That's why it's in the SALOON.  What was set up- specifically- for non SASS topics.

The description from the Forums Homepage and the top of the Saloon main page is quoted below.

I remember when they set up the Saloon.

When we left the old Gunfigher Zone style forum, everything was just a jumble on one page but laid out with topics instead of a topic followed by a chain of 'RE: XYZ' coming off of it.  Thing is, EVERYTHING was just listed as a topic, chronologically, all on one forum.  A 'You make the call' followed by a "For Sale...", followed by a link to a video oF somebody's grandbaby dressed as a cowboy, and so on.

When they decided to go 'uptown' with the WIRE and get fancy, they came up with the sub forums system similar to what we have now with the WIRE, Classifieds, ....  One of the original sub forums was the Ladies' Wire.  Didn't catch on because the Ladies stayed on the WIRE with the rest of us.  Since a LOT of folks were bellyaching about 'non-SASS posts' on the WIRE (or maybe it was just a few folks bellyaching a LOT), they renamed the Ladies Wire- that wasn't being used hardly at all- into the Saloon so all of the 'non-SASS related' posts.

I listened to the video the guy in the dog park took. The gun was not an AR, or at least not one that shot 5.56/.223. Those rounds sounded like 7.62x39.

I would not believe anything ABC, NBC, or CBS says.  They loved to make up polls, and such to back up their untruthful claims.  I did like the FBI agent who would only say it was a rifle and a handgun.  I wonder who funded this attack?  Where did he get the weapons?  Reminds me of the San Diego shooting where the FBI said anyone person obtained the weapons for the shooters but you never heard that person being arrested.

Are you talking about the San Diego purchase of guns used in the San Bernadino terror attack?

If so, see here:

Anything used in an assault is an assault weapon. A stick, A brick, a car, ect.  An assault rifle would be any rifle used in an assault. From Flintlocks on up.

Mine are strictly defense tools. Not to be used for assault; but for defense of myself, my family, and my friends.

You're certainly welcome.  You are quite correct that many major outlets do not issue follow-up stories as often as they probably should; they are, instead, chasing "new" news, and leaving the facts behind the prior headline in the dust.  The facts are usually no where near as "thrilling" as the wild-eyed on the scene reports or the uncontrolled talking head speculation that follows.

My uncle also said things that I can not say here about talking heads.  Wish he was alive and could get on one of those live talk shows!

It used to be that you should never trust a Used Car Salesman, a Politician, or an Ambulance Chaser (not the 4 legged kind).

Nowadays I put Reporters and Newscasters in that mix, only I place them at the bottom.

I predicted this left wing crazy violent behavior in an email to a friend about 4 weeks ago.  Here's an excerpt from my email:

==========

QUOTE:

"Anyway, the SA, above, is how I view these loosely organized, rabid, ninja-clad, masked, violent, screaming, incoherent, crazies who shout down, attack and promote illogical, senseless hate and rhetoric.  These "Democrat," socialist, "progressive" (communist) fanatics are dangerous cowards.  They are financed at some shadowy level that no one seems to want to talk about...I just haven't done any real research on their leadership and financing, but we have to understand exactly who and what they are.  My own crazy(?) thought is that we should expect violent cells of these people to target conservative political candidates (and others) for intimidation, beatings and death.  These include Congressmen, Senators, candidates and other conservative officials who they deem to be the enemy.  These people and their families have little protection when they are in public, speaking, performing other public or personal duties and at home.  Let's hope my prediction proves wrong and this bunch fades away after the first year or so of President Trump's term.  For now, I compare them to, and I call them, the SA."
