Sheriff's deputy shot, killed this morning

About 5 hours ago, near Three Forks. The last LEO shot and killed in Montana some 6 years ago, Trooper David DeLaittre, age 23, was barely a mile away from this one and only half a mile from his home when he was killed. Both of them during "routine" traffic stops.

The one thing I tried to pound into my officers' heads was that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP!

Deputy Mason Moore, 38 years old, 3 years with the department, wife, 3 kids. The "suspects" appear to be a father and son. Both were wounded in a shootout with police about 3 hours later 170 miles away on I-90 near Rock Creek, just east of Missoula, and taken into custody. Father shot in the hand, son shot in the head - alive but condition unknown. No additional LE casualties.

Wondering if these are more of the Sovereign Citizen nuts.

Another loss of the good side.  RIP fallen hero.  Another name for the NLEM (National Law Enforcement Memorial).  We don't know what these two are except killers.

The son succumbed to his head wound about an hour and a half ago. Bail was set at two million dollars for the father. If they don't watch the monitor too closely, maybe he'll hang himself in his cell. At 61, he's behind bars for his remaining years anyway.
