You Decide - Overreacting or Not?

This would have been over reacting a few years ago but now it's the new norm...the new norm of STUPID.

Well, in the typical liberal frenzy at the word gun, this is a massive over reaction to a non threat.  I think that the university needs to be sued for violation of civil rights, discrimination, and any federal funding removed.  The chemistry classes work with far more dangerous materials than a toy rubber band gun but you don't see the liberals running about screaming about explosive mixtures, bombs or anything like that.  Typical YCFS.

Typical response from a viewpoint of total intolerance. If it is not approved by (insert subset here) it must be destroyed by any means possible and those responsible must be punished and removed.

That being said, perhaps the choice of what to manufacture was not the best choice given the above mentioned intolerance.  They have enough to keep themselves riled up without giving them more ammo to use against others.

With things the way they are now a days .

I would say it was stupid to even hold a class like that in the first place.

It was set up for a failure from the start.

Until we get rid of gun free zones .

Gun free zones will be the attack zones !

I would want to see a photo of the rubber band gun honestly. There are some people who are a truly great craftsman and can make even a rubber band gun look convincing. I've seen some of the things cosplayers make as replicas and some of those people should go work for Hollywood with their talent. Just for an added example, take a look at what's on the market for airsoft and pellet guns. Aside from a small, orange ring, there is no distinguishing them from the real deal at any kind of distance.

I'm definitely not saying the reaction of the University was correct or warranted. I just want all the information.

Another instance of extreme over reaction...

AN EVIL, LARGE, ASSUALT RIFLE!

Some people are too stupid...unfortunately they are not stupid enough to stop breathing...

Do you ever think that things like this happen on purpose to further an agenda...what ever that agenda might be...

Considering anti-gun liberals freak out when a kid points his finger like a gun, this is NOT surprising at all! Overreacting? You bet they are!!!

As a person with an engineering degree, I find it sad that an undergraduate engineer was stupid enough to let it be seen.  If it had been a bottle of booze he would have at least transported it in a paper bag!

Over reaction. I hope the student sues. Hey how about the kid that brought a project that looked like a bomb to school and got invited to the White House. Also they successfully sued the school. I know it is different, but we now live in a very stupid world. I can remember having rubber band gun fights during recess in elementary school. Store bought rubber band guns

I disagree.  We need more professors that refuse to knuckle under so that the complete and utter stupidity that occurs on college campuses can be publicized and ridiculed out of existence.

Pretty hard to kill a cockroaches without shining a light on them.

We are sending our kids to college to learn how to build rubber band guns????? We were doing that at 7 and 8 yrs old. College is becoming a waste of good money in my book. Im glad my kids are all out of college now. Geeesh.

As Ron White wopuld say: "You can't cure stupid" even with a college education.

I suspect it was not your childhood rubber band gun. The ones I have seen from engineering classes are usually works of art. Depending on the professor the student may have to construct theirs from provided plans or they may have to draw up a design that will adhere to a stringent set of specifications. Then get the design approved by the 'Customer" and once approved build the gun according to the specifications. They can even be real or artificial budgets for labor and materials that have to be complied with.

Students or teams of students are graded on multiple facets not the least of which is adhering to some unique and challenging design  specifications. Often materials other than wood are required to test the students ability to work with materials that may have limited structural strength or are hard to work with.

Designing a rubber band gun to comply with  a creative set of specifications requires the students to do more than memorize their text books. It forces them to apply what they have learned into a relatively inexpensive yet fun project.

All that said I still think most colleges have become a waste of money because most fail to teach students practical real world  skills.

I've ben saying for years that Political Correctness was going to destroy the country.

I had no idea how many idiots would take it as a personal challenge.

I believe it was After WW2 the USSR would assign a Political Officer to each command structure of their armed forces. This officer's job was to promote the agenda of their political system and to report on those that didn't adhere and yo keep each group in check.

We now have a bunch of melon headed dipwads doing the same thing only they aren't getting paid or threatened to do it. They are just brainwashed ignorant fools.

This one wins "Thread of the Week", hands down.

What amazes me is it happened at SLU, an excellent private university.  I thought better of them than this..........

Oy vey!

We had an incident here at a mall recently, where someone may have thought they heard shots fired... or someone thought they heard someone say they heard shots... or someone farted load... or nothing at all... near the food court.   Folks were hurt in the ensuing stampede, Mall went on lockdown, multiple searches followed... result  "0".  To this day there is still no final explanation of what spooked the herd.
the fear of what could have happened

And here at the Reno Mall there is a kiosk where you can get a massage for your poor tired back while shopping.  I tossed my concealed carry piecein the little basket with my wallet and keys under the massage table.  The masseuse asked me what kind of pistol I had.  I told him.  He tells me he carrys a Springfield XDS.  Excitement over.  No one locked down the mall.  I saw two other shoppers open carrying.  No one gave them a second glance.
