Thoughts?!

I have 2 USFAs, BP frames, that I love shooting. I am thinking if adding a new toy to the collection but the prices on the USFAs is insane!!!! Can't find anything under $1500 and I can't swing that much.  I have been looking into other alternatives and have it narrowed down to 2 options. I like the BP frames so my choice is limited. I am thinking either the Taylor's Cattleman old model or the Cimarron Model P.

Any good or bad stories about either? Thanks

Taylor's and Cimmarron are importers.  They don't make guns.  The guns they sell all come from the same manufacturers so it is just a matter of picking features and/or price.

I know that Cimarron distributes Uberti but I wasn't sure about Taylor's.

The Cimarron will have more authentic markings, less visible proof marks, and charcoal blue screws.  It used to be that the Model P had a standard Colt hammer and the Cattleman had a "hammer-block safety hammer" with a wedge in the hammer under the firing pin.  But since Uberti is going to their new retractable firing pin hammer, what you will get isn't for sure.  Internally the guns are the same.

What is a retractable firing pin hammer?  Is there somewhere where I can see a photo of it?

Thanks.

Howdy,

Some mighty pretty six shooters.

If u didn't know Colt is all over em.

Too bad Ruger don't look like that.

of course ruger plus a little final touch equals great shooters.

IMO, Your choice is not "apples and oranges" but just which apple has the cosmetic appearance you like.....such as grip checkering...just little things.  As said the insides are still Uberti.  Both companies are outstanding in their sponsoring and supporting us/SASS.  You might even want to take a look at the Pietta lines with these two companies, and perhaps EMF. You might also want to check which model has custom features offered that you might want and fit into the budget (e. short stroke, action job, low profile hammer).

Taylor's customer service and warranty is second to none.

Just saying .
