Trigger Mike
the story below includes some good things done by my 12 year old the principal just yesterday said was among the worst 8% in the school. his behavior in this story is why i am having a hard time buying their version of events. I know he is not perfect, but this looks like a different child than the one the school describes to me about both my sons: I've got a good set of children. due to the flu i fell behind in lots of things so finally got to finishing the planting for the most part today. i had already disced it but had not plowed it and wanted to add some more fertilizer to it. i disced some spots that had not been broken before this year again, i should have tilled them as well but time was running out . then my oldest son helped me put the cultivator on the tractor. about that time my sugar went way off and i started shaking uncontrollably. i got real weak and struggled to move so he drove the Mule to me on his own and offered to take me back to the house . then he said he would load the fertilizer in the back of the mule and attach the spreader to the mule and fertilize everything. I got home ate some cheese and some peanut butter and also some orange juice. after a while my sugar settled. I went back outside to see the 3 youngest in the Mule with Andrew (age 7) in the back opening and closing the spreader as they got to each spot to start again. Rachel(age 5) was riding in the front seat for moral support i guess. Josiah (my 12 yr old) was driving and he'd cut open the fertilizer bags and fill the spreader with Andrew's help and they fertilized the places that needed it. he did fertilize his garden 3 times so I'm worried he put too much. then they put seeds in his garden, seeded the acre across from the cabin and then filled buckets with pond water and watered the grapes etc. i finished plowing, planted some corn under the power line in a spot with good dark earth, planted beans etc in a new spot behind the house by my back pond. ran out of time. meanwhile Hannah(age 13) took an area i disced for her and planted various flowers by the swing set. good day of help and fun. Trigger Mike
what i find interesting is my 12 year old DID NOT load the Lime, he knew the difference and that even though i never showed them how to use the spreader they figured it out on their own. i almost think my sugar going way off may have been a blessing as otherwise i would have been out there doing it with them helping but not as much. this way they handled it and got it right. the 7 year old wanted to go joy riding in the mule but my 12 year old said we still have work to do. plus i must confess the other day i let him drive the mule told him where not to go due to mud that would get him stuck and 20 minutes later he was stuck in that spot. it's almost like he is half way between growing up and still a wild kid wanting to just play.
