Hanso Lowe
Ruger Mini-14 from 1982 (I think) in excellent to like new condition. I was told it had fired one magazine of ammo when I bought it. I doubt it's fired that much. Has one little ding in the wood that could be steamed out if wanted. Has original box and papers. Five magazines included. $650 plus shipping to your ffl. I just need to get rid of some guns before I buy my daughter some new cowboy guns. Plus, I don't have anywhere to shoot it.
Rooster Ron Wayne
Does it say .223 only on the barrel ? Or does it have .556 on the barrel ?
Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
pretty sure all Mini's prior to the 188 series are stamped 223. And YES there is a difference. NEVER fire 556 nato in a gun marked 223.
Lefty Dude, SASS # 51223
Beautiful piece. I have one just like it, 1985. Mine is in that condition also. They made them very well indeed at that period of time. BTW; they only chambered them in .223 at that time. I concur, do not shoot .556 ammo in a Mini 14 .223. rimfire
All standard Mini 14's are safe with .223 or 5.56 ammo.Only the target model was .223 only. (check your owners manual) My 180 series was shot with 5.56 only when I had it,I use both in my current 181 series. I do not use steel case ammo though.(just my preference)

Dutch Nichols, SASS #6461
Rimfire,, the newer minis are listed as safe for both, HOWEVER....early Mini's were 223 ONLY. and there is a difference between the two.
rimfire
Dutch The owners manual that came with my 181 series (1978) says 5.56 or 223. Also the box on the one listed above says 5.56 and 223.The only warning I have ever seen Ruger give is on their target Mini 14 which they say is for 223 only. Chili Ron
Howdy, NO term is more overworked that 'collector item'. This does look like a real collector item to me. These aren't rare, just rare in this condition. If any pards know Ruger collectors give em a shout about this one. Of course it would be a fun shooter. Back in the early 80s that whole 223 vs 556 wasn't even thought about. It there were problems they would have long since hit the papers. Does the seller have any documentation on the carbine being sold with those mags? Which I assume are factory??? Best CR thinkin about it......? Badlands Bob #61228
This is straight from the Ruger Mini 14 owners manual. The RUGER® MINI-14® RIFLES are chambered for the .223 Remington (5.56mm) cartridge. The Mini-14 Rifle is designed to use either standardized U.S. military, or factory loaded sporting .223 (5.56mm) cartridges manufactured in accordance with U.S. industry practice. See “Ammunition Notice” & “Ammunition Warning”, BTT for a nice rifle.

The two 5 rounders that I have are ruger brand as is the 10 rounder. The 20 round mags appear to be after market.

Frontier Lone Rider
These came as the carbine, ranch and 30 model. The Ranch was drilled and tapped for a scope. I have seen these popping up at some 3-gun matches.
