Joe Buck is not my favorite.

But, Brent Musburger drove me to aggravating distraction.  Mr. Musburger is retiring.  I hope he has a quiet and silent retirement.

Wouldn't it be a better game if the networks hired the local announcers for televised games?  Probably cheaper, too.  And you're more likely to get some folks who know something about the local teams and fans.

The local guys here calling the Chiefs game are Mitch Holthus and Len Dawson. Used to be a dynamite duo, but Lenny is really showing his age (81) and Mitch has to prop him up. Len has had a stellar broadcast career, but these days it's clear he's not hitting on all cylinders. He hung on too long as a player, and now is hanging on too long in the broadcast booth. Kinda sad then as well as now.

Loophole's reasoning is sound however. The local guys spend hours with the teams every week and have a much better handle on the inside goings on. It's very noticeable for instance when a Rockies game is on MLB network instead of the local regional network. The bational guys mispronounce player's names have nothing interesting to remark on the personalities etc. They can only read what the statistician puts in front of them.

But it's pie in the sky to hope that local broadcasters could bust through the walls of the big networks.

It seems most of my professional football is caught by listening on the radio. Usually while driving. I end up listening to Bengals games, announced by Dan Hoard and Dave Lapham. For whatever reason, I find it more enjoyable than watching a game and listening to the big names.

Of course, I miss Madden.
