Pulp, SASS#28319 Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 A Lot! I'll load mine tomorrow and weigh it.
Noz Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 I finally found it. A 24.5" barrel Henry in 44 rim fire will weigh 9.25#. Loaded it comes to near 11.3.
Pulp, SASS#28319 Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Mine weighs 9.0 pounds empty, and with 13 .44-40 in the tube weighs 9.8 pounds. My cartridge box said TrailBoss, so if loaded with BP it might go 10 pounds. Either way, it's not something I'd want to carry to the top of Everest!

Cat Brules Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 The M1 Rifle weighs 9.5 pounds, so comparatively, considering that primary military weapons produced eighty years later weighed about the same, and considering the Henry's magazine capacity, the Henry rifle is a remarkable weapon.

It's not the weight but the balance. The Garand's weight is mainly in the receiver while the Henry's is forward, making it feel heavier and more awkward. Both are nice rifles.
Cat Brules Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Irrelevant. You're ignoring the point. The Henry was a paradigm shift and all things considered holds up well in many ways with a 1940 battle idle.

Tom Bullweed Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Utah Bob is correct. My 24.5" Henry was very muzzle heavy and difficult to stop on a target during a transition. My 18.5" Henry Trapper is a different toy. It has the heft I like but keeps the balance point closer to the receiver.
