Marauder, by filing the hammer are you referring to a cure for transfer bar pinch or allowing the removal of the transfer by filing the hammer rather than welding up the hammer?

Yikes!  First of all you cannot file a Ruger hammer.  They are far to hard.  If you are going to modify one you have to grind it.  As noted numerous times, removing a transfer bar involves MORE than just removing the bar and modifying the hammer.

Everyone does things a little differently but I would not try to remove material from the hammer to solve transfer bar pinch.  On the back of a New Vaquero transfer bar there is a round hump.  I would remove material from the back of the transfer bar.  Transfer bars are cheaper than hammers in case you make a mistake.

Thanks for your response Larson. I am aware that other things need done to remove the transfer bar. I have installed the power custom hammers with the half cock notch and have been considering removing the transfer bars. It was my understanding that you need to weld up the hammer to make up for the Gap caused by the removal of the transfer bar. Marauders answer to the post above left me a bit confused on the subject. I guess I would just being hopeful that one could grind some away rather than Welding which of course is much simpler.

The area filled by the transfer bar is shown by the pointer.  With the transfer bar gone the firing pin is sticking out into the air.  If you try to grind off the upper surface you will change the geometry so much that the gun will either not fire or you will get a lot of light hits.  You need to weld up the area shown by the pointer so it is level with the uppper surface.

I was referring to the transfer bar pinch.

Takes a lot more work to remove the transfer bar as you noted - building up hammer, cutting a half-cock notch, etc.
