Wire Forum Upgrades

Hi everyone,

First of all, I owe you all an apology for having blindsided you all with the upgrades to the forum software. I was equally blindsided with the extent of the changes. To be clear, it is not "New" software that we sought out and installed without telling you, and I certainly didn't expect the much needed upgrades to cause such an extreme change in the look & feel of the forums.

I had been receiving countless complaints and requests about the wire forum for some time now. Over the last year, even some of the most basic functions had begun to fail. It was causing all of us a fair amount of grief in terms of its failed functionality and inability to use many of the features.  So, I contacted our hosting service (website, servers, etc.) to intervene and see if they could help with the compounding issues before it got any worse. You all may have noticed as you encountered security certificate warning messages and such... something was definitely amuck.

They ran over 100 crucial and necessary updates, patches, and enhancements that were missing from the wire forum software due to neglect from our previous hosting service. They did it all overnight to limit the disruption of the forum users. We had no way of knowing in advance how much these crucial updates would affect the user experience.

With all of the updates they installed, we can look forward to seeing a big improvement in speed, reliability, and security within the forum.

With that being said, I understand that there are some concerns regarding the upgrades. To keep you all in the loop, I am communicating with our hosting service on the following items to work toward a resolution:

1. Signatures

2. Archiving threads/posts

3. Replacing the "Home" button that will return you to the SASS Home page

Again, please accept my apologies for the abrupt changes- I assure you, if we'd have had any idea, we would have let you all know in advance!

Last but certainly not least, my sincere apologies go out to Allie Mo and all of the other Moderators- I really didn't mean to blindside anyone.

I was just trying to help... you know what they say about best laid plans!

Thanks in advance for your understanding- and your support.

Misty, I find the new wire easy to use and as with anything can understand the growing pains involved with these things. THANK YOU so much for your continuing and constant efforts to improve SASS overall. There are so many of us that appreciate all that is done. And to any detractors...........if the wire is not quite to your liking at this moment take the chance to go to a match and enjoy all the awesome benefits of actually participating in what all SASS has to offer.

Thank you Misty and Thank you for addressing the issues that you have outlined  that concerned many of us.

This new Wire is definitely an upgrade, it just needs a little massaging.

Well Misty..

I think ya done good.. ;)

yeah.. I was startled the first time I saw it.. but hey.. I'm old.. I'll get use to it..

I'll figure it out.. May be slowly but surely fits in in there someplace..

Kinda like my phone.. Had a flip phone fer years..

Just got one of those fancy smart ones about a week ago..

Day by day.. I'm learnin more about it..

We'll all survive.. and like I said..

Ya done good...

Rance ;)

Thinkin.. My phone is still stumping me everyday on some stuff.. But I can still make and answer a phone call... and I can still read the ol' SASS wire :)

We should not be shocked to wake up to new software release with no warning or help function.  All software is constantly being updated without our knowledge.  And most of it has no help function.  I run mostly on Samsung tablet and phone.  It's most frustrating to have daily changes show up in software.

Just recently I had my tablet crash and burn.  I bought a new Samsung as close as possible to my old one simply because I didn't want to relurn everything.  I was talking with the Samsung support guy at Best Buy about how I could find the Help function.  He said there wasn't a help function.  Just Google your questions.

I have an old Krypro 4 machine in the closet.   Next to it is a paper grocery sack of manuals that came with it.

Misty,

The new wire seems like a good improvement.  It responds faster and is easy to use.  When the shock of change wears off I think everyone will like it.

Next year this time we'll be saying things like, remember how the wire used to be. I'm sure glad that's over with.

Great Job Misty

Misty, most folks initially recoil at a hint of change and this was probably no different.  I like it and have found it to be a welcome upgrade and getting easier every day.

Being a leader always makes you a target but rest assured that we appreciate your efforts in keeping SASS moving forward in a positive direction.

While my initial reaction to the upgrade was; "Wow, this is dramatically different.", it wasn't a bad reaction. Having been dealing with computers, operating systems, network systems, etc. since the mid 1980's, I've learned to adapt and upgrade myself along with the tech.

After using it for a while I kind of look at it like upgrading from Windows 95 to Windows XP Pro. 95 worked but had had numerous limitations and bugs that really affected how much you could do. XP Pro fixed a lot of the bugs, removed tons of limitations and greatly increased how much work could be done.

I run Win 7 Pro now and detest Win 8, 8.1 and 10.

Just please don't make us run anything that equates to Win 10.

Really liking the upgrade, Misty. Thank you.

I stopped trying to go on the Wire after it kept telling me I wasn't authorized, etc....

I LOVE the upgrades and have been enjoying reading/posting!

Thank you for your hard work!!
