Sedalia Dave Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 How origami could provide 'revolutionary' police protection http://youtu.be/P_ezsOeX5mQ
Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438 Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 Very creative; how useful in real world? LL
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 The problem is, this thing can't move with the officers. It's a stationary soft barrier that provides protection from pistol rounds. You'd be better off with an oak tree or some other hard barrier. Officers need protection that can be taken with them as they move into buildings or across open ground under fire. The ballistic shield still works pretty good. And they make pistol level ones that are about 25 lbs. I guess if you had an injured person who can't move, you could set this up in front of them to provide protection. I don't see this as very useful to the individual officer.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 It only weighs 55 pounds. It certainly can move. You only need step on that small bottom skirt to unfold.

Pat Riot Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I will bet this was designed by a video gamer. I am not a law enforcement officer and have never been in a shootout, and I never want to be. I have had some military and tactical training so technically I am an amateur in this regard but I would think most cops wouldn't even bother with this thing.
Jackson Rose, SASS #45478 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Great device if you are going to stay outside of an active shooter scene and hide. Seems like they found a solution and then tried to apply it to a situation. An ideal entry shield would weigh less than 10 pounds and be easy to carry, and stop rifle bullets.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I'd much rather hide behind a Bear Cat than an origami piece of kevlar. http://www.lencoarmor.com/
