Dee Mak Jack, SASS #55905 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Tired of trying to make photo bucket work. Some times is does and often it does not. So, what other options are out there that you have had good luck with. Thanks Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 "Drop Box" from Microsoft is free. However, I still haven't figgered out how to post a picture on this forum. I can post a link to them however. Only issue has been when someone clicks on the link---a pop-up indicates they need to join, but they don't. Just X out of the pop-up and pics come up. Quote
John Boy Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Jack - many posters on the Wire & Classifieds use Photobucket with no issues including myself. Might want to read this How To... http://www.sassnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=219914 Quote
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Have had real good luck with free (up to lots of photos) Google Photos. Good luck, GJ Quote
Three Foot Johnson Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I've had occasional problems with Photobucket, but they are few and far between. Once or twice a year maybe. Quote
Pat Riot Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I have tried Google Photos and Amazon Prime Photos and Imgur. The Amazon and Google are a pain but Imgur seems okay but I can only post a link to the photo, not an actual photo regardless of which one of those I use. Quote

Might want to read this How To... http://www.sassnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=219914 Posting with photobuck may not be an issue for you but having to click on a link to a photo posted to photobucket from my perspective is rather painful. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to get the page to full load even with a 20Mb download connection. Photobucket loads more ads and other bandwidth hogging crap than almost any other website unless you are a paying member. Edited January 15, 2017 by Sedalia Dave Quote
San Joaquin Shootist Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I have had it with Photobucket also. This is what I am using now---> http://imgur.com/ Quote

The Amazon and Google are a pain but Imgur seems okay but I can only post a link to the photo, not an actual photo regardless of which one of those I use. GP has a pretty large learning curve. If you want to be successful at using it, it probably takes about 4 hard hours of sifting thru the limited documentation and forum help available, and trying out on some of your photos. But, I was able to get fairly good at using it in that 4 hours of testing and trying, even without a teenager looking over my shoulder pointing at the next thing to click. But, it too right now does not seem to let you build a link that shows a picture directly in the SASS Wire page. The link it builds seems to be prohibited for display here. But I can put in a link by just pasting in the URL of a shared Google Photo, and adding "?.jpg" to the url. This is directly pasted into the text of this message, not made part of an IMG tag (using the little picture icon tool from the toolbar) nor was it made an html fragement by using the angle-bracket tool from the toolbar. Just pasted in in the text editing window. A link to a picture of a serrated revolver sight: https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNUs2RxZv7w1M-6QYdawkw2AoF9KgkTEKL09tXq?.jpg Of course, this is not where I WANT to be with making my posts directly show images, so I guess I'm still looking too. OK, this is a photo shared from SmugMug. Their image url pasted into the image icon URL field and WORKED first try! Upside - very easy to drag and drop a photo into your storage area. Seem very professionally organized (not like imgur). Downside - an account is $40 or more a year (more gets more storage). May keep looking. Tried deffe.com - they won't turn on my account by sending me an activation message. Good luck, GJ Edited January 16, 2017 by Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 1 Quote
Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Too bad we can't just post from our own computer/desktop directly to this site. I belong to several other sites and they do this. Sure is a hell of a lot easier. 1 Quote

Slate Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Imgur is a good choice, primarily because when you upload an image to it, it scrubs all the embedded data from the image file. It's also a lot easier to use than photobucket. Best regards, Quote

He's only 11 but he's a lot more savvy than I am on these things. I thought that you could post a photo directly from Imgur like you can with Photo Bucket but I haven't been able to do that. I can understand why SASS doesn't want to allow direct posting from your PC so viruses and such don't get transferred. Quote
Yul Lose Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I like Imageshack. Pretty easy to use. Quote

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I can understand why SASS doesn't want to allow direct posting from your PC so viruses and such don't get transferred. There's also the amount of storage space and infrastructure support that letting users upload photos and videos requires - such as, a photo upload that is never deleted or cleaned up after a few months would stay on SASS's disk storage forever. And there's the legal ramifications if folks were to upload illegal content to be shared with other people. Porn, copyrighted materials, hate materials, etc. Takes a TON of policing of what folks try to upload onto sharing services. In general, it's much more appropriate to have shared media on a professional web service. But as Google Photos and Amazon have proved - it is VERY HARD to make an easy-to-use photo/video sharing site. Especially one that is free to the users. And one that does not overwhelm the users with advertising (PhotoBucket) Good luck, GJ Quote
Tony Crowe Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I can understand why SASS doesn't want to allow direct posting from your PC so viruses and such don't get transferred. I would vote for allowing direct posting of photos. I am a member of a gun forum that allows direct photos to be posted and it works great. It does use more bandwidth, but it makes for a better experience for the members. Quote

Red Cent Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 They make you wait for so many minutes after each post before you can post again. PITA. Quote

Yes, the current basic account is $40 per year (I liked it better when it was $25 per year, but that was some time ago...). I find it very easy to use, both for uploading pics and for posting said pics in web forums. I will say that picture uploading is much faster than it used to be - maybe the extra annual cost paid for some better equipment on their end? So it can be said to be expensive (but I can afford $3.33 per month), but it works, it works fast and it works well. Gratuitous rifle pic of a recent build to celebrate the upcoming inauguration. Sorry for the funky bit on the pistol grip, but for now I reside in the Communist People's Republik of Kalifornia. Quote
