Chili Ron Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) Howdy, Last summer I noticed a decorative windmill about 8 or 9 feet tall at the local Farm and Fleete. I thought about it and walked in and took another look and walked away. Finally after looking about five times I bought the kit. Lots of grey metal and dozens of screws and nuts and quite a production to put it all together... And then almost put together I had a time figuring out how to keep it from sinking into the soft black earth of the back yard. Well the thing is awesome and it points right into the wind. I never had a clue how often the wind comes right out of the south. And seeing a 30 mph wind spin that thing is something. So if you want something entertaining and kinda old school, Try a windmill. Best CR ps just look for 8 foot windmill on amazon. There seem to be different makers, mine had decent instructions. and a magnetic parts dish didn't hurt one bit. Curly stakes from pet store too. Krazy Kajun Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 You need to hook up a generator on that thing. Kajun Quote
Charlie Whiskers Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 After I retired from the phone company I got a part time job at Ace Hardware. They sold those. Being "the new guy" guess who got to put the darn thing together. It took one 8 hr shift to get it done since another employee decided to help. He managed to dump the box of screws, washers and nuts all over the floor in the stock room, losing about a dozen of different sizes of course. They're probably still under those stock shelves. 1 Quote
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) Gilbert Erector Sets would have been a fine training device for those. Ah, the days of my youth when I built entire universes with erector, Lincoln and American Logs, bricks and other gadgetry, most with electric motors..... and nary a computer chip in the lot. Chili Ron Posted December 30, 2016 Author Posted December 30, 2016 Howdy There is no way to get that put together and haul it ten miles and not bend the darn thing. Just build from the head down and on its side. Best CR Quote
