Ninety Caliber Al, 50218
Just recovered from eye surgery and can see again. Time to start back shooting Cowboy long range. Saw a YouTube video on this rifle and was wondering if anyone has one and how they like it. It's supposed to be a truer copy than the Miroku rifles and higher quality to boot??? The Original Lumpy Gritz
What do you call 'long-range'? What caliber are you looking at. For real long range(500+ yds)look at a model 1874 Sharps in either .45-70 or .45-90. OLG

Looking for something a bit heavier(45-70 of course!)
The Original Lumpy Gritz
I have a 26" bbl, Japchester '86 in .45-70 and love it. Put a MVA tang sight on it and have no issue with 500 yard steel. One thing-That crescent butt stock is NOT your friend with heavy loads. I run a Lyman 420gn bullet over a dosage of Unique powder. OLG According to what I read these new pedersoli's are supposed to be superior to the "Japchester". That's what I'm investigating.....are they ,in fact, that well made??? The Original Lumpy Gritz
Never seen the 'Peter' version. All I know, are all the folks that keep trying to buy mine from me- The QC on my J'chester is as good as can be. OLG
Snakebite
It's hard to beat Miroku quality on any of their guns. Snakebite
Dirty Dan Dawkins
For the money, looks like the Pedersoli is $1500-1800 The Browning and Winchesters can be found in the $900-1000 range. I know what I'd do....you could upgrade to some darn good sights for the difference. I too don't like a crescent butt in a 45-70. I have seen better wood on the Pedersoli but that's about it. (I'd skip both and go for an original model 71, if given a choice) Edited December 26, 2016 by Dirty Dan Dawkins

Trailboss (Santa) Dave
Lumpy, I have one of the Winchester/Jap 86's as well. I put the same tang sight on it as came with my Win./Jap. High Wall 45-90 By the way Past recoil shield works very well to cut down on recoil
