A friend has a Win. 1897 16ga. with serial number D33259x . It is in nice shape.Could some one tell me when it was made and about what it would be worth? It ejects shell good and feed fine.I would say the finish to be about 75% to 80%.

I think closer to 1907, TJ. The 'X' is another digit. As you know, hard to assign value without hands on, but generally speaking they are about on par with a 12 gauge in the same condition. Be careful of short chambers on early guns such as this. I think 1931 or so is when they strated doing 2 3/4 inch on 16 gauge.

The chambers are all made for the shorter roll crimp shells.

The forcing cone allows them to be shot safely, but you will notice more felt recoil unless the chamber and forcing cone is extended to modern standards.
