A Sad Commentary On Our Society

Subdeacon Joe

Recommended Posts

A veteran who served our country for six-years died of pneumonia in a hospital alone. Eight months have passed and no one has claimed his body. Thursday, he was given a funeral with honors. His casket was surrounded by volunteers who took the place of his family.

Thursday morning, members of the patriot guard assembled at a church in North Austin.

Back about 1990 just a little NW of Calgary, there was an old grave on a ranch. It was the grave of a Confederate Civil War Veteran who migrated to Canada after the war. The Govt. wanted to have it moved to a cemetery. Because it was a Civil War veteran, it made the news. For the reburial, a Confederate reenactment group came up from the U.S. to act as pall bearers and firing party.

Not necessarily our society. In all wars there are bodies that go unclaimed. Sometimes relatives can't be found. Sometimes there was very bad blood. Sometimes records are inaccurate. It's good that there are brothers in arms and caring civilians who will do the right thing.
