Pat Riot Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Now that is something...Indoor CAS in the winter. Cool!...er, uh, Warm! Quote
Slow Mo Dern Posted December 8, 2016 Author Posted December 8, 2016 Hi Pat, We shoot at an indoor range and we shoot at 8" X 11" copy paper targets tacked to big sheets of cardboard over the bullet catcher boxes. One "stage" is approximately 5' x 6' at about 7 to 8 yards away and we have enough room for 5 stages across , if some stages are "skinny". The bullet holes in the paper get covered with paper target 'stickers' between shooters after the misses are counted. It's not the same as shooting on the range but it's winter fun indoors and we get plenty of time to talk to each other because there aren't as many posse duties during the match. It's a good place to test out different guns, new ones, old ones, different ammo etc. and we can test out different sweeps to see what works and what doesn't. It's always a good time. Mo Quote
Warden Callaway Posted December 8, 2016 Posted December 8, 2016 Should be real fun with black powder loads. Quote
Slow Mo Dern Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 Hi Warden, We do have fans that will suck the smoke from black powder out of the building so it's not discouraged. The fans also suck the heat out at the same time! The black powder guys are very polite and usually leave the black powder at home. The shotgun rounds are wax bullets propelled by a small pistol primer in a 38 case inside the end of a plastic shotgun hull so there is no smoke from the shotguns, just a little popping sound as the rounds go off. Lead Foot Luke Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Does the shotgun ammo have enough kick to reset inertia triggers? Quote
Slow Mo Dern Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 Hi Imis, If you go to You Tube and type in Lake Park Raiders Cowboy Action 2 23 12 Part 2 you can see a close up of the shells at the very start of the video. I don't know how to do a link to You Tube from here but the video is there. It's a plastic hull similar to what Bandit Shooting Supply sells only it's orange. Instead of a shotgun primer, an empty and primed 38 case loaded with a wax plug is inserted into the primer opening allowing the wax bullet to be shot out of an ordinary shotgun (with pin-point accuracy! Ha!). That's what makes it fun! Lead foot, The shotgun ammo has no kick at all. The first time you shoot one you'll think your shotgun misfired causing you to stop and think there by costing you valuable seconds! I believe the only thing that makes the wax plug come out is the primer being fired. I will ask the man that makes them. Mo Quote
